My mom upsets me sooo much!

I agree with Lauren's advice ...

My cousin's advice to me was similar .... take a deep breath, and say 'Thank you for your advice/opinion, but I think I'm going to go another way with this ...'

When I first got engaged my mom and I fought non-stop. It was terrible, I couldnt talk to her without getting into an argument or crying.

Sometimes, even when you KNOW you are right, you have to just let it go because there are some things they just dont know. Sometimes our moms are just as stressed as we are and don't know how to handle it.

I found that rather than snapping back in frustration, if I would just take a deep breath, and try to answer her in a way that wasn't obnoxious or sarcastic, the situation wouldn't escalate into a fight. (It was my fiancee who advised me to handle it this way because he didn't want to see me upset so frequently - and we haven't had a huge fight since!)

Try to remind her gently that it is your big day so you are doing things that you want to do, and that you welcome her input but not her direction.

my mom's the same way, we have argueed about basically everything so far-I wish it wasnt like this and we could have this mother-daughter bonding moment, but its just not going to happen.

On another note, Lauren, Im getting married at Bnai Shalom also....youre the only other person I know of on here thats getting married there!

oh, i can relate with you... just 5 minutes ago I showed her my invite sample & the last line read 'reception & celebration to follow' & she wanted to know why they threw in the word celebration??? are you freaking kiddin me??

Just let it go in one ear & out the other & do what you want.

Sounds like your mom is very old school. Years ago, it was unheard of, of brides giving gifts. It was a simple thank you, and thats it. She'll come around some way or another. Besides, she didn't buy the stuff anyway. Just being honest.

EXACTLY!!! It was MY money!....grrr...I swear we are constantly fighting..my sis says its because she knows the day is coming that I am leaving her...but geez, cut me some slack
