My owl finch died today.

I didn't even know he was sick...unfortunately, birds don't let you know they are sick usually until it's too late.



I feel so bad, I woke up today and all the finches would not eat or drink, they were all standing on the highest perch, except for the mate of the dead owl finch...he was sitting in his cup (they use it as a nest) with his dead mate.

I had no idea he died until I checked the cup. Now the surviving mate is making this whailing sound, and he won't eat...just standing on the top perch whailing and looking around. This is so sad.

OMG, how horrible that they seem to be expressing grief! Sorry to you too It's never fun to lose a pet.

That is so sad! It's like the mourning gorillas. Have you ever lost one before? Do the mates get over the depression?

Awww that is just so sad -- but I find it so amazing how affected they are by their mates death, its actually so moving. The sound of the whailing would really get to me

I've never lost an owl finch, so I don't know. All the other finches in the cage have their own society...but the owl finches kept to themselves...they slept together, did everything together...even bossed around the other finches. So I don't know what will happen.

I am sooo sorry Kathy! It is really hard that these pets we love so much can't always tell us somethings wrong.


Losing a pet is like a losing family member...you're in my thoughts
