My mother who has done more for this wedding than I ever imagined she could just threw curveball at me
She would like my MOH to email my bridal party to ask them for money towards the shower. Has anyone heard of this before? They are inviting 75ppl and my mom said the costs are getting out of control so she would like some help, I just feel like this is a huge burden on my girls who have other wedding expenses on their plates. What are your feelings? Please help!

Re: My own Shower problem
I think the girls are supposed to help, but I know exactly how you're feeling. I don't want my BM's to have to put a penny into the wedding besides their dresses. I'd rather not have a shower at all than have to put them out! My mom will be planning my shower but I'm sure some of the girls will help.

Re: My own Shower problem
It is ok for her to ask them. I know most showers I have attended were thrown by the BP not the mother.

Thanks girls. She actually isn't asking for a lot of money just a little from each girl. I just thought the idea of asking a BP to help out was way outdated. The problem is the 75ppl guest list - what happened to showers in the house with 20ppl or less
That is a HUGE shower . . . but you will make out like a bandit, so you better get to registering!!!

Re: My own Shower problem
I have helped pay for the bridal shower when in the bridal party...I do not see anything wrong with it. I think traditionally it is the MOH's responsibility.

What if she asked (instead of money) for the girls to get the favors, or decor...etc.
I got the cake, decor, favors for the shower at the last wedding I was in! No big deal. I think sometimes asking them to get things is easier then asking for money? maybe?
I agree- I think it is much better to delegate so that it feels like they are involved instead of just their checkbooks

Re: My own Shower problem
I think it is fine so long as your mom isn't asking for an extravagent amount (which it sounds like she isn't). However, if BMs are paying, I think they should also have a say in the details of the shower.

Re: My own Shower problem
I was MOH for a friend and the bridal party paid for the whole shower. The mother didn't contribute. I think it's ok for the bridal party to contribute.
I'm in a bridal party now and haven't really done anything and feel a little awkward about it. No one ever asked for or needed anything. I offered. Not that I don't mind keepng $ in my own pocket. I would have helped if I was asked.

Re: My own Shower problem
i'm in a wedding next month where us bridesmaids had to pay for the shower... since her family is from utica her mom didn't want to have to contribute to 2 showers since she was doing one up there (mind you none of the bridesmaids weren't invited to that one) so we ended up doing something small and we made all the food...!! still ended up being loads of fun !!
