let me preface this by saying i am not complaining but i dont know what to do. and its long. sorry

we went to a showcase last night and my parents fell in love with the band arcadia. we had originally planned on getting a DJ because FH is dominicano and we want a good mix of spanish music as well. Arcadia said they could try to learn some of the songs but otherwise we could give them a CD of the songs we want and they would stream it thru their system.

FH and I want like 30% spanish music, 70% american music. I dont see the point in getting a band if they're going to be playing the CD 30% of the time. but my parents dont think we should even play that much spanish music because they dont think the americans will dance. we were planning on choosing a lot of more 'mainstream' spanish music that everyone will dance to.

should i get this awesome band and have very little spanish music or should i stick with the DJ?

BTW FH and I love to dance, especially to spanish music, and my dad's a musician so music's important to both sides of the family. what to do?!?!?!?!

Do you think they'd believe you if you said that you contacted the band and they happen to be booked on your date?

I hate lying to my parents since we're super close, but that's what I'd resort to if I needed to..

I would tell FH that he should make this decision, since the presence of lack of Spanish music will be directly affecting him & his family.

I say get a DJ. Tell your parents thanks but its just not what you had in mind. The americans will dance to spanish music don't worry about that I love spanish tunes...

I had one DJ tell me that in every wedding where he has played Spanish music, everyone gets down on the dance floor. So I vote for the DJ.

A band can try to learn spanish songs, but if they don't have the right instruments or the melody, it won't sound right. Wish you good luck!!

We hired a DJ with some live musicians...just more practical for us. Every wedding we've been to that had a band...not to take anything away from them, but I felt the couple didn't always get their money's worth. They often took breaks and played a CD during that time. Also...we like to dance to freestyle, clubby music too and we're hesitant that they will do a good enough job. They money we're saving by going with a DJ is just an added bonus.
