My Puppy got shaved!

I'm so upset, I just picked up my dog from the groomers. I have the cutest little shih-tzu black and white puppy named Oreo. I brought her in today b/c her hair was getting too long. I told the groomer to take off about an inch (out of 3 inches). I told her that I didn't want oreo to have short hair. The groomer called me later and said since Oreo had some knots she had to shave her all around so she wouldn't look stupid. I went to pick her up and didn't even recognize her. I almost wanted to cry right there. My FI is going to freak when he sees her later. I'm so sad b/c I don't even recognize her now and I miss my soft, furry puppy!!!!! I really needed to vent!

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

It will grow back in time. Why did they shave it all off? Usually when my little maltese is knotted they leave her some hair. Maybe you should try a new groomer.

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

Definitely go to a new groomer next time...IMO, they should have called you before they shaved it!

Hey, if it makes you feel any better, I got the most devestating HORRIBLE haircut in July...and still wearing my hair half up/half down since then!!! My hair will take a lot longer to grow back than poor Oreo's, and at least dogs have no sense of vanity...

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

my moms cat gets very bad knots under her belly...so my sister one year had her belly shaved...the next year my mom went to the groomer and didn't tell her shave just the belly and they shaved EVERYTHING...except her head and tail!!

my mom felt so bad (the cat seemed to know we were laughing at her) but it was HYSTERICAL!!!! We laugh and laugh all the time...and now she gets shaved every year...and we still laugh at her!

to tell you the truth...the hair grows back SOFTER!! I wouldn't worry about it...just give your pup lots of love and take a picture to remember and laugh a few years from now!

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

This is such a funny thread because I found a flea on my poodle yesterday and RUSHED him off to the groomer, where he was shaved bald (they couldn't find any fleas, not even the one I saw... maybe it wasn't a flea after all... ). He has been under the bed ever since and REFUSES to come out. He looks so FUNNY!

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

It will grow back fast.

My dog has a habit of licking himself all the time so he gets notty and he hates when anyone comes near him with a brush. So I have no choice but to have him shaved when he is groomed. Unfortunately if she was matted, which my dog becomes, they have to cut everything off to make the hair even. If you want I can give you my groomers number. She is awesome and is so gentle to my little monster. He was so obnoxious with others when he needed to be groomed. But with her, he loves her!
The groomer should have told you what they had to do. They should have told you when you dropped him off or asked if the dog was matted. Because they tend to charge more when a dog is matted.

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

Thanks for the replies ladies. My poor Oreo definitely knows she's different. She's acting very different, almost ashamed (like she's naked). My FI is so mad at the groomer. We're definitely not going back there ever again. She could have left some hair on her, I just wished she didn't completely shave her. I keep telling Oreo she's pretty and I love her so hopefully she'll be back to normal soon. I can't wait for it to grow back, I'm hoping it will be within a few months.

Re: My Puppy got shaved!

By the way, she probably does feel naked and lost. My dog after is grooming feels naked. At least that is my dad's theory. Because for the first week he is under the bed or in a corner by himself somewhere. Its as if he has lost his identity or something. No jumping around or the usual antics he pulls.
Just give her a week to get adjusted to her new 'do' and she will be your Oreo that she always has been!
