My Save the Dates are OUT!

My Save the Dates are OUT!

Finally! What a pain in the neck. In the end, I really liked them, but now I wish I had just ordered them from someplace. I DIY'ed them---bought butter yellow scalloped A2 cards from Paper Source, stamped 'Save the Date' on the left side, printed the info on vellum, cut it out, and stuck that with spray adhesive on the right, and punched two holes and tied a ribbon bow on the top. 'Tying the knot,' get it? They looked quite nice, especially the ones with the blue and yellow striped ribbon. I bought some striped and some plain navy satin ribbon, and ended up using some of each. The striped was more jaunty, but I didn't have enough for all. Obviously, my wedding colors are navy and yellow.

I did learn something valuable from doing this--I DON'T want to DIY my invites. I found a company that does pocket invites that use the exact same butter yellow cardstock as my STDs, and the same as I'm going to use for my escort cards, table numbers, and programs. So I'm ordering those. They're a little more than $4 each, including an RSVP card, which is very reasonable. I don't mind doing the programs as there's no cutting and sticking involved, I'm just going to print them on regular 8.5' x 11' text paper (although it will be the 'butter' color) and fold them in half to make a booklet with heavier cardstock as the cover. I'll use either decorative staples or ribbon to bind them. They will look nice, and while it will take a while to put them together, it won't be frustrating. Please warn me off if I start threatening to do more involved paper stuff though! (I was thinking about petal cones...)

Congrats, yea sometimes DYI is just so time consuming. I am glad you found a place to do the rest of the printing. That is why sometimes people ask me why i am not doing 100% everything as a DYI since i am designer. Tell them I will design it, try to get most of it printed at the printshop i work at but the things I don't do at work daily and I know will be a pain in a butt to do I just let the professionals do it.

Well, they were supposed to go out last month. But first there was Christmas, then I got sick, then my fiance got sick, then we went back to work and it was crazy, then it was my birthday, then I got sick again...I want my invites to be perfect and on time which is why I'm ordering them!

I have to make another one--I sent them all out before I rememberd to take a picture! I want to make another one anyway to put in the wedding scrapbook I will eventually make. Probably five years after the wedding, at the sort of rate I'm going...

Mine are going out on Monday for the most part... I'm still chasing down a handful of addresses. I feel better seeing there are a few of us that did STD's even though the weddings are less then a year away... I had hear you are supposed to send them out a year before the wedding, but I wanted to do them anyway. Wow mine will be 6 months to the day. That just freaks me out... the counter says 182 days... wow! There's a reality check a good one though.

STDs are fairly new things, I don't think there's a definite 'should' time frame. We only got engaged in November, and at first we were thinking of September and told a lot of relatives that date around Thanksgiving, including ones we normally wouldn't see very often (at my FMIL's funeral, sadly.) Then we booked June 3rd two weeks later. So we wanted everyone to know ASAP that we moved the date up so they could make plans. Otherwise we might not have bothered with STDs at all.
