my short marriage is over.......its long! im venting....

my short marriage is over.......its long! im venting....

it really is... and I am so sad and ANGRY right now.
My husband has a drinking problem. And it is 10x worse because of the town we live in. hes not an am-pm drinker. however, he grew up here, bartended here and has many friends here- many still single and going out. someone is always going out and wanting to have a good time. my husband is still caught up in this party scene. dont get me wrong, I still like to go out and have fun but he takes it to another level- sometimes not coming home until the wee hours of the a.m.
this started happening before we got married but naive me thought that it would get better b/c we had both quit bartending... how wrong was i!
He doesnt think he has a problem-because even the married guys are out and about to all hours of the night- i know b/c i see them when I work! how do their wives put up with it??
the last straw was thurs night- he wanted to go into the city to see his friends bar- fine.. i didnt want to go b/c i was setting up for school all day. he goes- calls me at 2AM and tells me hes staying out for the night! hello!!! you are not single and you are not just dating me....
This happens more than once and awhile and I am miserable. Id rather be divorced after 7 months than have children and deal with this for years before I decide its enough..
i thought about moving out of Long Beach but that wouldnt solve anything- we move- say we get into an argument- hes in a car right back to Long Beach- his comfort zone...

Im just so upset and angry. i cant see a resolution to this. he doesnt think he has a problem. when school starts, things calm down we work and dont do much else during the week. so i have to worry every time summer comes?
he thinks because he doesnt go out much thats its ok. but when he does go out he doesnt come home until late and he is wasted. even if he does come home 'early' (2am to him) hes wasted and he doesnt understand why I get mad at him for it.
his family is like this also. I know to him I am the enemy b/c no other girl challenged his problem. I am the first one to actually care about what happens to him. but he is willing to throw away his marriage for this. And the heartbreaking thing is he will- because he sees me as being the verbal abuser and nag.. hell yeah i yell and scream and call him a drunk because I have had it!!!
anyway, i had to vent. Im sick of talking about it to my friends and family.

i dont know what im actually going to do next. its surreal right now... all i know is that im mentally and physically tired and that should not be after 7 months.

just please send me hugs and prayers. School starts on tues and this is going to be difficult- especially when everyone asks you hows married life.. plus the fact my name was officially changed to my married name for the kids....

you poor thing!

i give you a lot of credit for being strong and not taking this sort of behaviour from him. he doesn't appreciate it now - but he will someday.....if he knows whats good for him!
i don't think there are any words i could type that would help you out....just know you're in my heart and i'm praying that things work out for you....whatever that may be!
good luck!!!

Can you change your name back? Can you notify the school that you will be 'keeping the maiden name'? That way, the kids won't even realize.

Any chance that counseling could help?

we started to go to counseling- i went once and he went once and we were supposed to start together on tues. but if he doesnt realize he has a problem- its not going to help..

as far as my name- i could switch it back- this breakup is just so new i havent really given much thought as to what I am actually going to do. I sent them summer letters in my married name..

i am so sorry that this happening to you but i have seen counseling work for my cousin and she had a similar problem. i hope he wakes up and doesnt let the best woman he will ever get just walk out of his life.

i hope he wakes up also but as of now, hes not.... I'm 30 going on 31, have a great job, outgoing personality.. I have a lot going for me and if he cant see he has a good woman its his loss...

on the other hand the thought of going back into the single scene is terrifying. I eouldnt stay with someone because of that but that doesnt mean I'm not afraid. i know i sound like Im jumping way ahead but i cant help but thinking of everything...

I sound a lot stronger than I am right now. I just am in shock...

This is heartbreaking and I send u

No one knows for sure how you are feeling..only you know the extent of how much his behaviour is affecting you and if you deem the relationship unsalvagable then so be it. I could not imagine putting up with what you appear to be. When I was dating..this was a definite relationship breaker. Marraige is hard work even without outside stressors...I think taking a break..not necessarily divorce but try separation before you do something more permamnent..maybe he will get a wake up call of some sort.

I am here if you need to talk. I understand more than you think and I survived it..you can too.

Kristi I wish that I had some words to bring you comfort. You are a strong and intelligent woman and even though he is your husband you have to do what is best for you!!!

Have you also thought about going to some Al-Non meetings??? Being that they are people in the same situation they might be able to help bring you some comfort and understanding that your friends and family can't

Vent all you need we are always here for you!!!

I'm so sorry you're going through this, but I have to agree with what you said about it's better to get out now than after you have children. If you really think there's no hope, stay strong and I'm sure you'll meet someone who will appreciate what a wonderful woman he has.

Do you think if you brought up the counseling again, would he go to it.

I am soooo Sorry you are going through this tough time!
I can say that I have dealt with a loved ones alcohol problem! But mine was very close to death because of it! And I beleive with all certainty that unless they believe its an issue, until they see it for themselves, you are right, no amount of counseling will help!
Hopefully the risk of losing his marriage will snap him to his senses!!!
Please let us know if you need anythng!!!

ETA: I know how you feel on the issue of being strong! I am going through some tough times personally and my DH keeps telling me how STRONG I am and how he admires me for that! Yet I feel like a complete mess 90% of the time!! Trust me, you are stronger than you give yourself credit for!

Please let me know if I can help in anyway!
