How long does it usually take to get it fixed? I'm hoping to bring it to the jewelers tonight - when should I expect to get it back?
ETA - I have a wedding to go to on Friday night - and I'd be totally bummed if I wasn't able to wear my ring!

Re: My stone is loose!
where is your jeweler?
A stone can be securely reset in 30 minutes or less - you shouldn't have to leave it at all, unless the jeweler (the one that actually does the work) is offsite.

Re: My stone is loose!
They're in Melville - - - - but I'm in NYC and they close at 5:30! If I want to make it there today I have to leave work at like 3:15 for the train! (not that I have any problem leaving work - it's what I live for! )
I guess I'll see how my day goes. I can barely hear the stone moving - a co-worker is arguing with my that i's not even loose! But I know my ring - and I know it's never made noise before!!!

Be VERY careful!!! My stone fell out a few months back, but I found it... THANK GOD!!! It took about an hour to fix. I had the insurance on it, but they wanted me to send it away and it wuold have been gone for 2 weeks. Instead, I paid $20 and had it fixed asap.

I would take it off and put it somewhere secure. God forbid your stone falls out and you can't find it. Put in it you wallet or something. Mine was loose once to, I know how you feel.

Don't leave your stone with a jeweler. You never know if you are going to get your stone back. Take it to a reputable place who will repair it in front of you and if they wont then wait til you find someone who will. FH had to have my ring fixed because my sidestones are large and one had shifted. He had it done right in front of his face in the jewelry exchange in Manhattan. I trust no one.

Take a breath.... it shouldn't take more then a hour so do not leave your ring there. Also take the ring and put it in a sealed envelope and put it in your change purse so it doesn't get lost. Don't worry, it will be ok.

When I get my stone tightened up, it usually takes 20 min max and I wait for it. Good Luck!

Do not leave the diamond...it should be done, like the others said, in 1/2 hour. i get my stone checked now and then when i bring it in for steam cleanings. they say if your can feel your prongs on the diamond you're safe. it's when the prongs have worn down and are smooth as the stone.

tell them you need to have it done while you wait and see when a good day it is to do that.
