my sweet kitty has gone over the rainbow bridge

My cat died tonight. She was the youngest of our 3, at only 6 1/2 years old. She died of kidney failure.

It doesn't feel real yet. We have three cats, but she was our queen. She ruled the house. She was the most ALIVE creature I've ever seen in my life.

I think sometimes we take our pets for granted. We love them and coo at them and pet them when they rub against us, but we forget sometimes exactly how much they really mean to us. For many of us, they are more than just cute things to cuddle. They are living, breathing creatures, with personalities and feelings, and they feel like family.

We take people in our lives for granted as well, but with animals... all they want is love and food and water and something to play with, and that makes their love that much more important for being so sweet and simple.

Those of you with pets, give them a head rub from me and take a minute to appreciate exactly how special they really are.

My heart goes out to you! I lost a cat to kideny failure at 8 years old after spending months / thousands of dollars to do EVERYTHING in my power to help him live without suffering..

i am so sorry my thoughts are with you, our family cat just passed but we were able to enjoy him for 20 years - yes 20, so i can relate to how you feel right now

20 years, oh my goodness! That's amazing! And I'm so sorry, it must have been devastating to let him go.

I'm so sorry. I know it can hurt losing a pet. Six and a half years is a long to time to know and love and care for someone.

So sorry for your loss!! We also had 3 cats- one of them died this year on my birthday (January), she was 9- she had a problem with her eyes, and our vet couldn't figure out what was wrong, we did tests & more tests, and then after a few months, she was blind. And then the last week before she died she just wouldn't move at all...I was feeding her wet cat food by hand since she wouldn't get up...it was heartbreaking!! It was sad when she died, but also a relief because we knew she was suffering...I just didn't expect it on my birthday!!

I'll give my 2 cats a pat on the head for ya, and you do the same with your 2 kitties!! Feel better!!

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing an animal is one of the hardest things in life, but you are correct. We should treat our animals with the same respect and love we show to our friends and family because that is what they are.... our friends and our family.

i am so sorry for your loss. one of my cats died a few years ago from kidney failure and that is a hard thing to go thru. i had another cat die a few months ago from tongue cancer and that was hard as well, b/c she was 18. and then another cat (14 years) died a month before her from lymph cancer. when pets die it is like losing a part of you. the rainbow bridge kills me everytime i read it. we were really close with our vet and he sent this nice poem that i will type for you. i am sorry if i make you cry, but sometimes the poems help you.

four feet from heaven

your favourite chair is vacant now
no eager purrs to greet me
no softly padded paws to run
ecstatically to meet me

no coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
will say it's time for feeding-
i've put away your bowl
and all the things you won't be needing

but i will miss you, little friend
for i could never measure
the happiness you brought to me,
the comfort and pleasure

and since god put you here to share
in earthly joy and sorrow
i'm sure there'll be a place for you
in heaven's bright tomorrow.

i find this poem easier to deal with than the rainbows bridge.

i am soooo sorry. i have a dog and she is my baby. i still can't imagine anything happening to her. i just pray that your kitty is in a happy place and that you will have condolences to get through this time.
