My cat died tonight. She was the youngest of our 3, at only 6 1/2 years old. She died of kidney failure.

It doesn't feel real yet. We have three cats, but she was our queen. She ruled the house. She was the most ALIVE creature I've ever seen in my life.

I think sometimes we take our pets for granted. We love them and coo at them and pet them when they rub against us, but we forget sometimes exactly how much they really mean to us. For many of us, they are more than just cute things to cuddle. They are living, breathing creatures, with personalities and feelings, and they feel like family.

We take people in our lives for granted as well, but with animals... all they want is love and food and water and something to play with, and that makes their love that much more important for being so sweet and simple.

Those of you with pets, give them a head rub from me and take a minute to appreciate exactly how special they really are.

I am so sorry Your post brought tears to my eyes because you summed up exactly how I feel about my wonderful dog. I know what it's like to lose a pet...It's one of the hardest things in the world to go through. The Rainbow Bridge is the perfect poem. Please know my thoughts are with you....

Aww. So sorry about losing your kitty. I have owned 8 cats and all I have is one left. It's very sad to lose your pet.

I'm so sorry about your cat! But i'm sure your cat had a really good life!

Yesterday on my way home for lunch, my FH called me to tell me that the screen in the window had popped out. I have a cat named Tiger who is 1 year & 3 months & a brand new kitten (we just got last week). Well the kitten was missing!!! LUCKILY we found him!!! But the drive home that day... i was so nervous! I had him a week and he already had me!!

Not that it's the same thing, but i completely understand what it's like to have that awful sad feeling, even if only for a few hours.

Until we got Tiger, i never understand people and their pets. I get it now! I would do anything for our cats!

my Stormy is 11 years old, and I'm about to post that we had some good news regarding the lump on his back, but I feel the same way as you - before his biopsy came back, i was thinking how I take him for graned, how angry I get when he's naughty... but how he has been my best friend since he was a teeny kitten....

I'm so sorry!
