My unique CP idea... Please tell me the truth (Pic Included!)

My unique CP idea... Please tell me the truth (Pic Included!)

Here's the scoop:
I'm not such a huge fan of flowers....I love them, I just can't justify blowing soooooo much money on my CP's for my 22+ tables... So I came up with a different idea for my CP's, one that really is relevant to me.. an Herb Garden CP! I have always had a love of cooking, so I thought this idea would be really cute. Mom is giving grief, saying how 'different it is' and how some people 'won't appreciate it, and think you are just being cheap'. Yes, it is inexpensive (only costing me after tax 21bucks!!! That saves me over 2000!) Please tell me what you think.. I made a sample and the pic is below... Need your opinions, as you are THE guru's on all wedding issues

its adorable for a shower or an engagement party but probably not 'dressy' enough for a wedding.
i personally like those kinds of things but i think you need something with a little moore oomph.
good luck!

I LOVE it. I LOVE it. I LOVE it.

Are you using white ribbon and pots
only?

I feel the same way about blowing all that money on flowers.

Since I am in the fall I am using fruits like apples, cranberries, figs and others

not formal enough for a wedding. If you don't like flowers, try candles

I love it BUT here is a way you can dress it up AND save even more $$:

Find different size/shape/height flower pots spray paint them silver or gold, then pot each herb individually. it will add depth to the arrangement, make it a little fancier, and your guests can each take one home as a favor!!

I actually painted the pot tone on tone ivory and I wrapped the top in ivory tulle...We are sort of going with a southern living/golf theme.. so we are trying to keep things a little less formal (it's a day wedding) but classy because of the location...

It's a great idea but my main concern would be that would the smell of the herbs might overpower the food or even change the taste of the food.

It's something to think about. This is why you should use unscented candles - so it doesn't interfere with your tastebuds.

what do you think about putting it in a galvonized sp? pot... those silver bucket things... that might dress it up a bit more... ilove the idea...

I too think you should go with whatever floats your boat....I love the green theme, especially given where your reception...

the only concern is one that someone else raised (sorry) about the smell interferring with the food...because of that, I would stick with ONE herb...

maybe you could do mint, then make mojitos or caiparihas (sp) or mint juleps as a signature drink to tie it all together...

another idea is basil or parsely....you also want and herb that looks pretty...

no matter what though- go for it.

ETA: one more humble opinion...the herbs you choose should also look uniform...it will make it look more elegant

thanks for all the comments! I actually chose herbs also because they are reflecting what herb will be in each dish.. I have basil, thyme, chive, rosemary and parsley. I had originally wanted the galvinized tin pots, but I am having a hard time finding them

i responded on BHB. I like the idea, but too colorless for a wedding. It's a good start, maybe add some color some how?

don't mean to be a pain hun, but that is all the more reason it may be overpowering....the nose is not as sophisticated when there are so many smells..

take perfumes, the grass outside, the kitchen smells, the food, any other flowers around...

I don't want to discourage you- I just cook a lot and have some experience with it.

for the pots, if you go to the city ever, try the wholesale flower district on 28th btw. 6th and 7th...they really have tons of stuff

I got my julep cups from Jamali Gardens

(which, incidentally, I think the julep cups would be great for what you want to do)

Sorry and Good luck!

I think the fact that it's a reflection of you is a great idea. Go with what makes you happy and save your money for the things that really count!

I love the idea that the centerpiece would be such a reflection of you! How big are the tables? Maybe you could add some votives or something around the herb to dress it up a little if you're concerned.

I really like your CP idea...it's original and definitely goes in accordance to where you are having your reception. If it's some thing that reflects you, I say go for it. Maybe to give it some more color I would suggest different colored ribbon around the pots...other than that, I think it's a cute idea!! Good luck to you :)

Cute idea and much more useful than flowers that will die but I do think it needs more color somehow. If not this idea then I would definitely use candles instead. You can do a lot with them and are cheap.
