I'm having issues with my wedding date. Here's the scenario:
I work in retail, and I inadvertently booked our wedding on the saturday of a holiday weekend (presidents day) which is super busy. This year they said the store manager (not me) couldnt have any days off that weekend. I'm upset because I'd love everyone to be there. When I originally thought the idea we were thinking of borrowing managers from other stores. I'm not going to change the date because I've already booked vendors. I just have this weighing on my mind very heavily now. Then again lets face it, I work in a store, somebody is going to have to work it's not like we can close. I also wanted to have an afternoon wedding so we can capture the sunset and views of the water...
ETA: Second problem is FH is also a store manager in retail and highly doubt now that they will let him take that week off for the honey moon because schools are out that week...

Re: My wedding date
awww i really hope they give you both that week off! that would be kind of insensitive if they did jmo but hellooooo its your wedding!!! As for your co-workers im sorry they wont all be able to come but it cant really be helped, retail is usually open 7 days a weel so someones gotta be there, theres really no way to avoid that... im sure everything will work itself out!

You're totally right, I mean I kind of expected this anyway. If I had chosen any other weekend though it would have been easier. I feel like such a turd. The people who I've known the longest will be the people who will attend thats all. I don't mind if some get there late either. Maybe I will go ahead with an afterparty now LOL. (Also they are giving me off for 2 weeks, its FH's job I'm worried about - they are the worst)

Re: My wedding date
they should give your FH a break. But its true retail is 7 days a week so no matter what day you chose for your wedding there wouldve been scheduling issues with your coworkers. Dont stress!

Re: My wedding date
I hate the way retail is... I really do. Look, it looks like your a year away from your wedding. That is plenty of time for your jobs to sort out the messes and find coverage while you enjoy your honeymoon. They shouldn't be like that. I work for a company who is giving grief over taking off for my wedding, but I honestly don't care. You and FH deserve the time off and deserve a wonderful wedding. They should make it a point to understand that. As for the guest, I have been in situations when I worked retail that when there was a social event where we as a store were invited, they either A) closed the store early or B) found coverage. I would def. inform them now and tell them that this is what it is, and that you are deeply sorry but it had to be done this way. If I were a manager, I would let you have the time you needed :)

This is true, I told my store manager today. We just got a new district manager so she said once she's settled in we'll talk with her candidly about it and discuss our options (but she seems kind of mean!) For me to have time off it isn't a problem. I'm getting 2 weeks off, but if FH job doesn't give it to him I won't waste it and we'll go on honey moon another time. Its not the end of the world I guess, there's worse things that could happpen I guess.
Thanks all for your kind words
