So ive always been a stick figure. I told the woman measuring me that im not going to gain weight before the wedding, ill prob lose weight bc thats what happens when im stressed. So i tried on my dress for this first tike and it fell off of me...they had to clip it to stay up...its prob 2 sizes too big. Now i have to pay the full 300 alteration cap to fix the dress. In my opinion, i feel like i shouldnt have to pay that much bc they ordered a humongous dress for a size 0 person....do u think i should make an issue of this? Not only does paying an extra 300 bother me, but i felt so much anxiety and disapointment when i tried on my gown...i felt like i was trying on a sample not my own gown...im worried bc there is so much elaborate beading and banding that im worried it wont come out looking right.

I would make it a point to say something. You told the woman you didn't want to order that bug of a size and she insisted you did. Maybe they will at least split the cost with you.

Yeah I agree, it's worth a mention, even if they don't do anything..

What size did they order? I would definitely mention it and tell them you are disappointed and its not your fault that its too big and you shouldn't have to pay $300. Where did you order your dress? Like the other girl said at least its not too small!!!

Re: my wedding gown is the wrong size...
they ordered a size 4. When i get fitted for my dress in june i want them to look up the size chart so i can see what size i fall into and argue from there. The lady who fitted me wasent there i got a random floor person who was sweet but didnt kno much about sizing so it seemed pointless to argue at the time. But she did agree it was really big.

They should and will not mess up your dress. They are a business. I would call and make an appointment with the manager or the lady that measured you and have them look into your sizes and how it measured up to the size they ordered. Not saying they did this but some places will order it not the right size so they make money for fitting the dress. Just express your concerns and feelings. Tell them how disappointed you was and why. I think you will have good results if you approach it nonconfrontional but more expressing your feelings and concerns.

I honestly would make an issue of this because it's not your fault that they ordered a bigger size. You should not have to pay for their mistake. I would explain this to them and see what they say. Me personally I would not take this issue too lightly. And speak to them to find out if the alterations will change the original dress because you mentioned that there is elaborate beading on the dress.
I think you have the right to express your concerns to them.

I'm beginning to think these places do this on purpose. I went to a place that doesn't do alteration in-house and they ordered my gown in a size that pretty much fit. The only thing I'd need altered is my bust, but that shouldn't cost so much.
I understand the possibility of gaining weight and stuff, but isn't there something fishy about the fact that they always tend to do this???

I agree. I was in FBIL's wedding a couple summers ago. I fit the sample size perfectly, but they insisted I order up despite the fact I haven't gained weight in years. The bride ended up placing the order and decided to listen to them and order up a size. It was huge and I had to get a lot done to it.
On that note....def speak up and mention the size issue. It's worth a shot and I think most reputable places will try to make you happy.

Re: my wedding gown is the wrong size...
When you were measured and the order being placed for your gown, did they tell you the size they were ordering, and did they try to talk you into ordering larger then what you wanted? If so then I would just have a discussion with the manager about it. Don't yell just tell her how you feel and see if she can do something. Unfortunately, if you know what size they ordered and you did not voice concern about it at the time, I dont think they will waive the alterations. But its always worth a shot!

Re: my wedding gown is the wrong size...
I agree with you girls that I think they do this so you pay a ton on alterations. The woman who measured me said I was a size 4. Thats when I told her I dont gain weight and I dont want it too big etc. Then she just said according to the designers sizes, this is what size I am. I know I am the same weight and measurements as when she took them so I just dont see how this makes sense...I had this dress custom made and spent a lot of money on the changes I wanted and now i have to pay MORE to make it my size....very disappointed....I would never yell or be rude about it, but i'm thinking its going to get ugly bc of the attitude i sense from the woman. sigh. like there isnt enough for us girls to stress about while planning a wedding!!! thanks girls for supporting me i feel a bit better that at least u girls agree with me and im not crazy lol
