My younger sister is having pregnancy problems....

My younger sister is having pregnancy problems....

She is 32 weeks into her pregnancy and her baby is stuck in a horizontal position. She has been in that position for the past 2.5 months. The doctors said that from where the baby is right now, she won't be dropping in time for delivery........

My sisters pelvic bone seperated about 2 months ago, and for the past week, she's been peeing blood..... She went to the doctor and they told her they may have to admit her in the hospital so they can turn the baby......but they said that since the baby is in such an awkward position, it may not work. And there are complications to that too......something to do with the cord.

They might have to do a c-section 8 weeks early.......she is soooooo scared right now......

Has anyone experienced this at all? Any adivce I can give to her? Anyone know what this is called?

I'm a critical care paremedic here on LI and I do a lot of transfers to my hospital for pregnancy related complications. The good news is that they are aware of the problem. Most likely the problem with the cord is if they turn the baby the unbilical might tie around the babys neck (which sometimes naturally happens in utero) and is usually not a problem until delivery. If your sister has to have the baby now, the baby has an Excellent chance of making it through without any major complications. Neonatal medicine has greatly advanced and 32 weekers as we call it do great. For the most part the baby is pretty well developed and hopefully will only need a little assistance with breathing if delivered early.

Its scary but stay positive. Make sure she is at a hospital that has a stong neonatal unit and everything should be ok. If you have any questions FM me.

My prayers are with you

It will all be OK! As the above poster said 32 weeks is really good! She will be fine, the baby will be fine. Deep breaths and stay positive. I know it's hard but your positive energy is SO important right now! Hang in there!

Thank you for all the information. I'll pass that onto my sister........she is so upset right now.....I told her not to stress out because the baby can't deal with the extra stress........

I don't know what it's called, but wanted to share that my cousins were born 3 months early and were only about 3 pounds a piece (they were twins). They are now healthy and vibrant! Another set of twin counsins were born super early and they thought one was not goign to make it, but she did! The baby is pretty well developed at 32 weeks and will make it through this! In a little while, when the baby is running around the house grabbing everyhting he or she can, you'll look back at this and remember just how strong s/he and your sister are. Lots of for you, your sister, and the baby!

Re: My younger sister is having pregnancy problems....

My cousins baby was born prematurely also 8 weeks early...Shes actually lucky taht she got as far as she did because babies that are born 8 weeks early have a very high survival rate...my cousins baby was in neonatal for 6 weeks until they were able to bring him home... everyone was fine.

My future neice was born 8 weeks early and she is doing fine now! I think FSIL was injected with some hormones before delivery to speed up the development of the baby's lungs and then they were ready.

It's great that they caught it early! Here are some hugs for you and your sister.
