*~N is for NAME CHANGE~*

Original post by FutureJOC

Sorry I didn't post this morning. Crazy Monday!

Your letter for the week is...

N for Name Change!

Are you planning on changing your name after the wedding? What's the reasoning behind your decision? If you don't plan on changing your name, what is FH reaction to your decision?

Most likely I'll take his last name but I considered hyphenating it also. My maiden name is unique and surprisingly rhymes with my first name. However, if I go back to school and get my PhD, I'll keep my maiden name (FH knows and understands).

I am definitly changing my name. Althoug my last name will go from four letters to 10 letters, I am very traditional in that way. I have two brothers and one has a son so my last name will live on. It is weird to think though that my parents, my brothers and their wives and kids will all have my last current name but I will be different.

Errr i still dont know what to do when it comes to this topic.
FH says he doesnt care either way...plus he's puerto rican and in that culture the girls keep their maiden names...but I sort of like that his last name is much shorter than mine and that if i change it then it feels more official for me and I to have the same last name as our kids.

What is causing my doubt is that i'm going to be an M.D. right after I get married and I sort of always wanted to be 'Dr. maiden name' ...is it too confusing if I'm 'Dr. maiden name' but everything else 'Mrs. Fh's name'??

I had a professor who got her PhD in psychology and she kept her maiden name with her PhD title but in her personal life she was 'Mrs. married name'. Her children and their friends all just thought of her as 'Mrs. married name' they didn't even think of her has Dr. maiden name. It is a little weird because as I was typing this it sounded like living two different lives. But if I was becoming a doctor I think I would want to keep my maiden name. I'm not sure why though. lol

I'm very old school and traditional so I definitely plan on taking his last name.

i think this is completely fine..i work at a law office and one of the attorneys uses her maiden name for everything related to work, and it is on all her diplomas, etc. She is married and uses her husband's last name for everything else! it works out great
