*~N is for NAME CHANGE~*

Sorry I didn't post this morning. Crazy Monday!

Your letter for the week is...

N for Name Change!

Are you planning on changing your name after the wedding? What's the reasoning behind your decision? If you don't plan on changing your name, what is FH reaction to your decision?

Oh this topic is such a thorn in my side lol

I LOVE my last name - after me the name kinda dies out and it just makes me sad. FH's last name is Italian, which is important to me, but it's boring LOL

I guess it sounds petty - but I have grown up with a 'different' name my whole life, not saying that when I take his it won't be different but my name just has a lot of meaning to it.

Putting a hyphen is just wrong - since my last name is 10 letters long - it's just mean lol

Why can't the guy take the girls name?? LOL

But I know I will take his name - I guess i have some time to come to terms with it. lol

I'm old school- I'm taking his name. I didn't even have to think about it. I love my name but....it is what it is. Plus, he is the only son so we kind of have to pass on the last name. (I like the name anyway so, that helps!)

This topic pissses me off lol

I feel like if I keep my name I'm not really married.
FH's name is awful and long.
If I hyphenate it's wayyy too long.

I'm going to **** it up and take FH's name but it still irks me.

Definitely

What's the reasoning behind your decision?
Mainly bc I'm traditional and couldn't imagine not taking his name, but I also can't wait bc his name is half as long as mine!!!! I'm downsizing from 13 letters to 7 woohoo

I'm actually excited to be taking my FH's last name. My grandpa changed his last name legally before my Dad was born from something really Polish to something really generic.

I never really understood why, but I'm looking forward to not having to explain that I have no idea what my last name is (ethnicity) or what it means. I always have to explain how it isn't really our faimly name. Haha.

FH has a very pretty italian last name which I am happy to take. Even if I didn't like it, I would take it. I consider myself traditional.

Errr i still dont know what to do when it comes to this topic.
FH says he doesnt care either way...plus he's puerto rican and in that culture the girls keep their maiden names...but I sort of like that his last name is much shorter than mine and that if i change it then it feels more official for me and I to have the same last name as our kids.

What is causing my doubt is that i'm going to be an M.D. right after I get married and I sort of always wanted to be 'Dr. maiden name' ...is it too confusing if I'm 'Dr. maiden name' but everything else 'Mrs. Fh's name'??

I am going to change my name. I love my last name because its cute but thats it. My parents have been divorced since I was born and I have no real relationship with him. My brother changed his name to my moms maiden name a few years back and my sister who passed away was married. My mom plans on changing her name back once Im married. If when my sister passed she had my last name I would have kept or - it. I also think though its important to start new and start our family.

I think it will be funny b/c I have a reallllly realllly irish name and now my last name will be jewish.heh

I plan on changing my name. As much as I'm going to miss my last name, it is a privledge for me to take on fh's last name. Not to mention he has already stated numerous times that there will be no hyphenating .

I am definitely changing my name. It's going to be weird but I'm happy at least my family name will not end with me (I have an older brother and he just had a son so they can worry about carrying on the name).

I also love FI last name. Common, everyone knows how to prnounce it (unlike my Italian last name).

Not at all, I would for an attorney that used her maiden name for her practice and used her married name in everyday life.

I'm changing my name legally to his. But I am an independent designer, and I feel like I've been working under my name for so long, that I hesitate changing it since my name is essentially like my company name. But FH didn't really like it when I said that. So I guess I will phase out my maiden name....and I guess I'd better arrange to have my web address changed along with everything else!!

I am hypenating my name...both of our last names are five letters each and i actually love my maiden name and still want to carry his. He doesnt mind either way!

I plan on hyphanating my name. It will make my name 14 characters but its for a good reason. My daughter, who is not my FH daughter, would be the only one with my maiden name. FH and I have a son together and I have 2 step children and they all have my soon to be married name. I dont want my daughter to feel like an outsider and not part of the family. I will only use my maiden name when it comes to my daughter...school, medical issues etc.

It will feel a little weird being called the same name I call FH mother....MRS. X.

Yes, I am definitely planning on changing my name to FH's once we get married. I am very traditional and always knew that I would change my name once I got married. I like FH's last name...but I'm also going to miss mine because it's unique.

Oh....name changing...funny situation. I currently use my middle intial in my name and wanted to hyphenate our names but his name is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long. FH last name is Jean-Lubin!! I hate it. I think MY name is so much better sounding and I was really for a moment trying to talk FH into changing his name...

But all jokes aside...I will be changing to a Jean-Lubin
