Nails

For those of you with acrylics...... how often do you take off the acrylic and have a new nail put on? And do you have to give your own nails some time to 'breathe' before putting the new one on? Or do you leave it on until it breaks off and replace one at a time?

Odd question, but I need to know!

Re: Nails

Marcella, thanks for answering!
I have another question then.... did you ever get infected under the nail? I think I have something there, so I don't know if I should get the nail off and leave it off to try to treat it, or what. What would you do?

Re: Nails

Octobergirl- If you think you have an infection I would take off the nail and clean it out and if needed go on antibiotics. You may also be having a reaction to the glue or acrylics. You don't want your nail bed getting infected because it can cause you to have problems with that nail growing out normally later. If you are allergic or sensitive to the acrylic you can have other side effects. I would remove them and see what what is going on underneath.

Re: Nails

Sometimes if the nail gets loose, water will get in there and you will get an infection. You would have to take acrylic off and treat the infection.

Re: Nails

If its black, its probably fungus. You can buy something at the nail salon or a cosmetics place to treat fungus. It happens. Water usually causes it from what I was told.

The worst part about it is that your nail will look ugly for a while.

Re: Nails

octobergirl

I've had acrylics on for over a year and I've never had to soak them off...nor have I ever gotten an infection.

She uses a drill on me that really files the acrylic down and bonds to my nail. I never lift or break.

I have permanent french so every 6 weeks, she drills (or files) my nails down and reapplies the acrylics.

If you don't do this...after a while the acrylic starts to turn yellow.

Best to stay away from these 'special' deals they have at salons. You get what you pay for.

The black under your nail is definitely from the acrylic lifting and water getting inside. The old nail needs to grow out so best to keep the acrylic off of them for now...

Re: Nails

I have had acrylic for 7 YEARS!!!!!!! and NEVER soaked them. My nails look extremely healthy underneath and I get compliments often. My nail girls is great and I've never switched. She is super hygenic and very artistic. She is in Westbury at 'Savoire Faire'. Her name is Tammy. You shouldn't have a problem if they clean and sanitize their utensils. I've NEVER had to worry. Never got any kind of fungus. If it is black TAKE THEM OFF!!!

Re: Nails

I did get a greenish color fungus on one nail it is caused mostly by moisture and water if your acrylics have a small crack or lift a little.

My manicurist treated it with an anti-fungal solution and it was fine

Re: Nails

Mrs2B, I also have the Permanent French. I get my regular fill in every 2 weeks, and like you, about 6 weeks, get the White done over again.
I've been doing it for years, never had ANY problems.

Re: Nails

lizlen,

It's it addicting!??! I love them - they always look great.

Where is your salon located? Mine is in Smithtown...

I've had acrylics before we're they've had to 'pick' all that stuff off every 2 weeks...it's so painful!

The drill is so much better...

Re: Nails

Hi Mrs2B, I agree, it is soooo addicting. My salon is in Hempstead. I have been through many different salons over the years, and even paid some hefty prices for my nails, but now I have really found a home, they've been doing my Perm. French for about 2 years now !!!!!

My sisters always call me boring b/c I don't get color polish !!! But who wants to deal w/the maintenance of polish chipping, etc. .
when you can have a beautiful classy look all the time !!!!!!!!

Re: Nails

I've been getting my nails done since '96. I love to get them done. My only occasional problem is the curling of my regular nail away from the acrylic. But I think in all the years I've been getting them done I've only had a fungus maybe 5 times and they cleared up right away. I always get designs on my nails. I love to get crazy things.
