Nails
I am thinking of getting Shellac on my nails. I have done almost every thing possible for my nails and have yet to fine the one that makes me happy haha. The OPI Gel was terrible for me, my nails chipped in a couple of days and it was supposed to last 2 weeks. I have heard Shellac is much better. Any of you ladies have experience? I don't know if I should get Shellac or just weekly manicures.. My nails chip so fast ohhh decisions, decisions.

I have the same problem. If I get the UVB gel manicures it lasts a bit longer, but my nails are super brittle, and I'm not a fan of the nasty things that can come along with the gel manicures. I'd probably just go weekly. I just do them myself at this point and go for a maintenence manicure once a month.

Same here. My friend gets Shellac all the time and her nails always look flawless for weeks. I usually do my own nails but I'm thinking about getting Shellac for my wedding after seeing her perfect nails.

This is what I have been doing. I just hate the moments I get lazy and don't paint them and they are plain. I would rather them always be painted which I think that's where the Shellac comes in but I am afraid of it ruining my nails. Oy..

I have great success with all gel manicures. I've used gelique, opi, and shellac. I have them all spring & summer. I let my nails breath during the fall/winter. Gel just doesn't work for some people. I think that if the OPI didnt work the shellac won't either. My mom cant get them done because her nails are weaker then mine (im very lucky to have hard strong nails) and chip within a couple days. Two girls at my job have the same issues with gel. They've tried it because I swear by it, but it just doesn't work on everyones nails. I would stick with weekly manicures since the OPI didn't work

Do you find your nails are weaker when you take the Shellac off?

I don't bother with gel manicures. They don't work for me. I polish my nails myself and have revived my nails after years of wearing acrylics. I use a base coat routine of switching between Essie's Grow Stronger (or longer maybe...) and Nailtiques Formula 2 plus. I do my own nails between 2-3 times a week.

it depends- if you leave the polish on too long it will honestly ruin your nails...I definitely find taking the polish off within 2 weeks is good for your nails and i use an organic nail polish remover rather than file the polish off which is what is done in a nail salon..
also giving your nails a break for at least a week helps! :)

I only did shellac mani/pedi once before we went to Mexico and it worked out great, I don't remember my nails being weak after I had it taken off. In fact, I remember my toe nails feeling stronger as weird as that may sound
I really liked it, I'll definitely do it for our wedding and honeymoon, I might do it when we go away later this month too.

I'm a nail queen! You need to try Japanese Calgel. It's like shelac in the sense that you it lasts days without chipping, but it lets your nails breath underneath. I've been getting japanese calgel manicures for a year now. My nails are so strong that people assume they're acrylic tips. Also, the manicure lasts a month!!! Yes, a month!

Re: Nails
I've only done shellac once, right after we got engaged, but it chipped on me in less than a week. I made the awful mistake of peeling off the shellac and ruined my already think and weak nails. That was about a month ago. Since then, I've been using Revlon Colorstay nail polish and just doing them myself every week. Using their base coat, color and top coat, my DIY manicure has lasted about 4 - 5 days without showing any signs of wear. I type all day at work, so I get these little lines, like stress fractures, in the polish from my nails hitting the keyboard around Day 4. The shine is nice, almost a shiny as the shellac was, but the polish is not as thick. I do like that it comes right off with regular non-acetone remover. HTH someone out there who is as inexperienced with nail care as I am. :)

2013er crashing... Where do you go for the Japanese Calgel? I would love to try it. I refuse to let my nails be 'naked' haha.

I go to Hello Beautiful which is in Brooklyn, but if you're in the city, they do Japanese calgel at Maries Nail Salon. I'm not sure if many places on Long Island use it yet.
