Name card and couples

Name card and couples

How are you treating couples w/ the same last names vs. couples w/ different last names on your name cards? Are you splitting them up or keeping them together? Are you addressing them as Mr. and Mrs. husband's first name and last name? Or Mr. husband's first name and Mrs. wife's first name + husband's last name on one card? Or two separate cards?

Most of our parents' friends did not RSVP with their spouses' first names. It'll be really difficult to get everyone's first names. (Sounds weird, but culturally my parents don't address their friends' spouses by their first names.)

How is everyone doing their name cards?

We aren't doing name cards, we are doing a seating chart in which we still have to list names. married couples will be Mr. and Mrs. John Doe.
Persons with a guest will be listed as Mr./Mrs Last name, and guest

What about for married couples that have different last names? Are you doing separate cards for the husband and wife?

For example:
1 card: Mr. John Smith
2 card: Mrs. Jane Doe

OR

1 card: Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe

We did it on the same card: Mr. John Smith & Ms. Jane Doe.

I've also seen it on the same card, but two different lines.

Mr. John Smith
Ms. Jane Doe

Ok, one last Q....

Assuming Mr. John Smith and Ms. Jane Doe are on the same card, do you always list the husband's name first even though the couple was invited based on my friendship w/ Ms. Jane Doe and not Mr. John Smith?

Call me crazy. I'm just confused. Seems kind of sexist....

I wouldn't think too hard on it (btw, we are date twins!).

No one is going to call you sexist if his name is first.

I don't think it matters. You can put the wife's name first, too.

I'm doing it alphabetically (I agree, the woman shouldn't always have to be first) for married couples, friend first for dating couples and +1s

Re: Name card and couples

I was just contemplating this yesterday but decided to just put both names on one place card

Mrs. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith

and it will go under the D's for the order of the place cards

Don't you need the name of the guest for your hall
