name change

Ok, I got a question for everyone. When you change your name on your marriage license do you have to switch all of your papers ( Social security, credit cards, etc) or can you keep using your maiden name for all those things?

I don't think you have to ... I think its just easier if you do.

I would change my name on everything except the social security card. A friend of mine told me that if you change your name on your security card, and for some reason you get divorced, it's really hard to change it back.
But i do agree that keeping things consistent will make things less confusing.

You can't change your name at work (i.e. health insurance, tax forms, etc) unless you change it with Social Security. If you change your name, you have to change it with Social Security.

If you do not want to change your name at all, then don't change it on the marriage license.

My divorce was finalized recently and it was super easy to change back to my maiden name. You can print the form out online and just walk into the SS office with $10.

How about in hyphenating situations?
