your priest will mail it to the county you got your license in, then the county/township will send you your marriage certificate. once you get your marriage cert, then you can go change your name at SSA and DMV.

you get the document back from the town you registered for the license i got mine back four days after the wedding sometimes it takes a few weeks.
Once you have your license First place to go is Social Security Then go change your banking stuff Then drivers license Insurance/etc Credit Cards Loans/etc

That's why we have to start a campaign to inform people that they should make checks out to 'CASH' in these situations
For my engagement party, guests already began making checks out to Mr & Mrs New Name...I don't understand why, but they did. I spoke to someone at the bank who isn't a teller behind the counter (one of the people who sit at the desks) and they approved the check for clearance.
Edit: I just noticed your wedding date was a few days ago! Congrats!!

do you have a joint account with your DH ? ask your bank about what their policy is. my DH and i already had a joint account and when we brought the checks to the bank they said it was fine--just as long as i signed the checks in my 'married name' when we endorsed them. but some banks are different.

we opened a jt acct right after the wedding using my married name. they only had one of us sign the checks. ask your bank what their policy is. i know i had to go in person to deposit a check made to me in my maiden name and show id.
i know someone said asking for checks made out to Cash, but I would advise against that only for the fact that if god forbid you were to lose the checks, anyone could cash them. also, some banks are not accepting checks made out to Cash.
