Name Change Help Please.......

I am hoping someone can help me figure out this name change stuff.

I went to SS first and changed my name by dropping my middle and making my maiden name my middle and taking my husbands last name. No problem. I just went to DMV and she says I can't do that and now my name on my license is my original middle name and my husband's last name. No maiden at all. she got very short with me when I tried to discuss it.

My question is: Is it a problem now that my SS middle name is different than my license and registration name?? I don't care, but will I have problems in the future?

Nope, you shouldn't have any problems. I did pretty much the same thing you did. Imoved my maiden to my middle and took Husband's last name. DMV told me they didn't have enough space to put My first, Middle Initial, Last Name, So I have on there First Nam and New Last Name. It's still you, so you shouldn't have a problem.

OK...I have put this off for 3 months...On the marriage cert is says only my DH's name...but can I hyphenate on my SS...just so I can have some identification with my maidan name?

So you don't think it matters that SS has me as:

Amy Maiden Name Husband's name

and DMV has me as:

Amy original Middle Name Husband's Name

They refused to even change it in the system!

I work for an investment firm, and you will have problems with the names not matching when you try to do certain transactions that require a signature guarantee - unless your credit cards match your license and your name on all your accountts matches your license. I hope this helps!

I am going to be doing this as well. I am going to be making my maiden name my middle name, I will have to wait and see what happens.

I did the same thing and had the same problems at DMV. Long story short, I just didn't put anything for my middle name.

the DMV lady was so mean and nasty to me. She told me I wasn't legally able to take my maiden name as my middle name without a court order to do so. I told her with my SS card it was no problem, and she told me that was a federal thing and DMV is a state thing, so if I had a problem I should write Pataki.

uh oh - this is what I was going to do! I'm confused why the records wouldn't match though. If your SScard has all three names, weren't you asking DMV to change it to the same (all 3)?

That's what I plan to do, but I will have the names match on all of my documents.

Just make sure on financial papers - tax returns especially - you use the exact name that's on your SS card (super-easy way to get audited - when names don't match). Also make sure that you change it for work purposes, so that when you do collect SS, the names match.

Teri- I wanted them to match, but DMV wouldn't let me...I showed her my SS form with all 3 names correct and she said they shouldn't havedone that ...she refused to make my license match, she said I had to have the original middle name and then she refused to let me take the middle name/initial off my licenese....

i am going to go back I think....

any lawyers out there that might know??

Oh god this seems so complicates. My middles initial is E and my current last name bgins with E so I figured I would just leave the E and take new last name. Do I have to use my full maiden name?

Where is the ss office anyway?
