Name change question

Can I change my name legally, but keep my maiden name for work? Or do I have to keep my maiden name as my middle name legally to do this (like Jessica X Y rather than Jessica Y)? Thanks!

I changed my name legally but keep my maiden name for work.

I think it depends on what you do.
Most offices don't have a problem calling you by your maiden.. however some types of job require legal names be used.

Ask your HR. I did... they told me they keep a list of alias... apparently this happens alot.

Oh and I kept my FULL maiden name.

Veronica N. Maiden
although my legal name is now
Veronica Maiden Married
next year after the 'wedding' I'm going to allow my office to change my name to my legal name.

Good question Jess...I plan on doing the same thing, business wise I want to keep my maiden name, but for everything else I want to be my married name..I have no idea how to do it, maybe Ill hyphenate it?

I changed mine legally to my married name, and had wanted to keep my maiden for business purposes, but it turned out to be a hassle.

This is why: b/c I changed my name legally, they HAD to change it on our payroll. Now to change it on our payroll, I had to change it through HR. If I was to have documents coming to me from different departments to different last names, it was just going to get confusing. I ended up just changing it to my married name all-together and it just worked out easier....

That was just my particular situation though....

Re: Name change question

I can't wait to change my name!!! I have a long last name that no one can spell or pronounce half the time. People see it and start speaking to me in Russian. I'm 3rd generation American born!!! No one in the family speaks anything but English. I work in a doctor's office and no one knows my last name other than co-workers, so it makes no difference to me professionally.

I just have one question... how do you go about changing your name? Who do you need to contact? I hadn't even thought about that part of it.

Most women in my office use their maiden at work, but leagglay cahnged to their married. I'm not sure yet. I think if i do change it legally, I'll keep it at work, b/c I deal with people outside of my office of 13 that I don't want to know my business.

I plan to legally change my name through payroll so my w-2 will be correct but my work correspondance will have my maiden name. It helps that in the 10 years I worked there I have been the only christine
