Name Change Question......

Okay..professionally I cannot change my name which is fine, but I'd like to change it when I am not at work. Does that mean that I will legally be two different people (LOL)?

Is anyone else doing this?

I am hyphenating-- using my maiden name at work, etc. and married name whenever.. I will NEVER use the two together except on legal documents-- I just thought this was the best solution for me-- I did not want to change my name at all initially.

Haven't done it yet though..

this is what my boss did.... she kept her 'old' name for professional reasons (she was already a well established dr.) but 'legally' hyphenated her name. outside of work she will sign her married name, and i believe both go on legal documents etc....

As long as there is no intent to defraud, you can use whchever version of the name you'd like

I am taking FHs surname as my surname and using my maiden name as a SECOND middle name. I don't want to hyphen. I do have to go through some sort of legal name change though - the same as if you would change your name if you weren't getting married. There have been a lot of posts about this - whether or not you have to go to court to do it legally. Essentially, I will have two middle names and one last name with no hyphen. Whatever the end result, I just want it to be legal.

And I am not sure but if you hyphen, then your hyphenated name is now your new surname isn't it? I don't know if the separate names can be used interchangibly. Though I could be wrong on this. Anyone know?

If you hyphenate your name, you can use both? Do you have to legally change your name on your SS Card, Passport, etc?
