Naming Parents on Invitation? - Poll

Original post by Lools

I want to name our parents on our invitation, but FH doesn't because he feels like it's too wordy. (My parents are divorced and mom is remarried so there is one extra name than usual)

What do you think is proper?

I would name them if they were contributing to the wedding. Otherwise, I don't think it's disrespectful not to name them.

We didn't b/c we are paying for our wedding, but there is a section in the program that we have dedicated to out parents.

who is paying for the wedding? that actually has a lot to do with whose names go on the invites and in what order

we had this discussion and i just felt weird not putting our parents names
yes we are paying for the wedding but we felt it was right...

ours read

Bride
and
Groom
Together with their parents
Brides parents and
Grooms parents
request the honour of your presence at their marriage
and so on...

We had trouble fitting it all on the card and found the block print easier to work with and it made the invite look less wordy... and we have gotten lots of compliments!

Fi and I named our parents hosts, even though at the time we planned on paying for the entire thing ourselves (they helped out later). I guess one could say we weren't giving ourselves enough credit, but this was one thing I was willing to slide on.

it's probably necessary if they're contributing to paying for the wedding. I almost made the mistake of just putting my parents, but then asked FH's mom and she said she wanted to be included...both sets of parents are contributing about the same so I put both. It did get wordy, and we couldn't fit the church street address, but we're including direction cards so it should be ok.

I put our names and then together with their families (parents). His parents are divorced - both remarried - it would have been too wordy.

It's funny I never thought that I was traditional until we ordered our invitations the other day! lol

Even though we're paying for it with my parents help, we put the names of everyone on the invitations -!

same here - its only right!

My parents are divorced and mom is remarried, FH's dad is deceased, but we put everyone on there. It's not disrespectful to leave them off. But you have to think how the parents would feel. Invited can be wordy. Lazy people only read the time and date at best! Do what you and FH can agree on. Here is my layout if it helps.

Your presence is requested at the marriage of Ryan XXXXX daughter of Robert XXXXX and Susan YYYYYY to Billy XXXXX son of Margaret XXXXand the late William XXXX on October 5th 2007 at 6 oclock in the evening, Smithtown Landing, Smithtown, NY

Not too bad HTH

originally i had 'together with their parents' and when i told mine about it they were kinda peeved. we're splitting the cost of the wedding between us, his parents and mine. i didnt name them to be succinct, not disrspectful. it came off that way, tho, so we changed it. so glad i did too!!

Traditional or not, FH and I wanted to name our parents (my dad, both FH's parents) on our invites to honor and respect them, whether or not they are contributing financially.
Since my mother is deceased, she is not being named on the invite but is being honored with a memorial candle.

We would not be who we are without our parents.

My parent's are on there because they are paying for most of the wedding. FHs mom isn't giving us anything towards it. It reads:

Stephen and Geraldine C----
request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Keri Ann to William....blah blah blah

We were going to put 'son of....' but his father just recently passed away and I didn't know the etiquette.

His mom is hosting the RD so she will be named on that invitation.

FH and I were both a little traditional when it came to this and named our parents. We wanted to show them the proper respect and this was our way of doing so. His mom was a little put out because FH's dad is remarried so it's an extra line and she didn't like the way it looked, but FH told her it's not his fault she didn't change her last name after the divorce or re-marry.

Both of my parents are re married ...and we plan on putting all their names on invitation even though we are paying for the majority of it. Hope this helps!

My parents are divorced and my mother is remarried. Since FH and I are paying for a majority of the wedding, we plan on saying 'Together with their parents'

We're trying to figure out the same thing. We're paying for the wedding ourselves. I asked my mom her opinion and she said not to be her and my dad on the invite, but I still feel a little bad.

my parents are divorced also, so it adds extra lines... so i am writing The Proud Parents of Kerri and Randy blah blah you get the point.... i have to acknowledge them beacuse both sides are contributing.....

Thanks for all the responses ladies!
As of now our invitation reads

Lauren XXX
and
Todd XXX

Together with their parents
Evelyn and Jan XXXX, Mark XXXX
and Mark and Saralee XXXX

invite you to witness their weddings vows
as they begin their new life together

I still feel that we should keep our parents' names on the invitation. FH and I are paying for a good majority of the wedding but his parents have contributed a huge chunk, about half. Mine haven't done anything so far.
But I still think all the parents should be recognized.

I'll have to show FH all your opinions! Thanks!
