Naming Tables for the reception
Hi there..I am wondering if anyone else is doing this.. or if I am the only crazy one.. we are going to name our reception tables after cities in Alaska.. (we are taking a cruise to Alaska for our honeymoon) then at the tables i want to include a little note about the city that we named the table after..What i am wondering is if anyone has done this before, and what kind of paper/template did you use.. i am just not sure how to show it on the table...Do i use tent cards.. where do i get them..i am just not too sure.. or maybe i am just making myself crazy over nothing..

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
you are not crazy. just beginning to realize all the details and possibilities of wedding planning that will make your wedding unique.I am tossing around 'white' ideas for my white theme. Cotton, Linen, Marshmallow, etc. A lot of the girls are naming their tables after cities, streets in NYC, etc. You should do a search!

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
My hubby and I did this at our wedding last year - I was vehemently opposed to numbers, and wanted to do something interesting, that would encourage conversation at the guest tables, but also tell everyone a little bit about me and hubby and the adventures we have been on. I believe this is a great way to personalize the wedding.About a year and half before the wedding, I moved to California, so we decided to tie our seaside theme together by highlighting cities that we visited together - most of the cities residing by the sea. My hubby created the cards using photoshop and microsoft word. He sized a photo of each city small enough to fit next to a short description of why we went to that city, what we did there, what we saw.
We proofed each file and then brought them on a computer disk to Kinko's. They printed the pages, trimmed them to the size we wanted and then laminated them to make them stiff. Kinko's then mounted an easel on the back of each card, so they could stand on the table. We made two for each table, since our tables were oblong.
They were a huge hit at the wedding - our guests even traded cards with other tables, in order to read more about our adventures!

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
our theme was a summer garden...so I named the tables after different summer flowers...I went to www.corbis.com and downloaded pictures/paintings of the flowers and then in word I put 2 on a page (landscaped) and printed on photo paper, with the name of the flower underneath...It worked out great...
my hall put them in 5x7 frames for me...not sure if every hall will do this for you

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
BridetoBe...was thinking the SAME thing, too funny. My concern is there going to be mayhem without numbers? Like how is anyone to figure the sucession of the tables? 1 follows 2 and people can figure that out but how would they know Yellow Beach follows Red Maple?
Where did you find the pics of fall foliage? Would you mind sharing?

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
We are naming tables also, I plan putting the names & explainations in picture frames. We are HMing in Europe & plan to use the names of cities & sites we will visit, as well as the words, love and kiss translated into the languages of the coutries we'll visit for a total of 16 tables.
I'm a little unsure how the guests will find their tables in the room, they will have placecards with their name & tablename-but I don't want them wandering the room looking for their table. Any ideas?
Here's pic of a frame I like

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
stacedz...I have the same thoughts. I haven't thought it thru 100% yet. Not just for guests but even the waitstaff. They often rely on table numbers to do their jobs...Maybe I could but Table 1 : Red Maple. Can anyone else tell us how it worked out?
I have the fall foliage site bookmarked at home. I will gladly share it tonight!

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
We did table names as well. We named them after cities that meant something to DH and I. We had the name of the city and then a brief description of what it meant to us. We ALSO had to use numbers for the hall since this is the system they use for serving. So we used both. I put both the table name and number on the seating cards. I have a picture that you can see it a little bit -- I'll try to post it.I used parchment colored paper and had it lamenated. They were placed in the number holders at each table (ring that number slips into).

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
I found a site that listed about 13 leaves with pics that I might use, I am hoping 13 would be enough (not sure how many tables I have yet). I agree with you though for the wait staff too that you need Table 1: Brown Maple, which isn't too bad! Thanks for sharing your site!

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
just to let you know...our table numbers would have been very eratic...they didn't go in order...and I got rid of tables that would have completely thrown people off (like 1 and 3)ask your hall what they do...they may be able to help

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
We are naming our tables as well. They will be named after famous streets in NYC. I had signs made to look like street signs and also had the placecards nade that way as well.

We named our tables as well. We did Tom Petty songs since we are both big Petty fans.We just put the names on cardstock, and the hall will cut them for us.

Re: Naming Tables for the reception
I was at Claud's wedding and the table cards were a huge hit, plus a very personal detail which really made the wedding beautiful. So FH and stole the idea from them and since myFH's hobby (and 1st love
) is baseball he is doing table cards of some of the ball parks/stadiums he has visited over the years. People who know him know that his goal in life is to visit every major league stadium across the US so this really fits him to a tee.
