Nassau Count Question

Nassau Count Question

I grew up in suffolk county, but for the last 2 1/2 years we have been living in bayside queens. All of our friends and family are way out east in suffolk, and we planned on buying a house out there when we were ready, but I just can't ask FH to do that type of commute, he is a sales rep and works on long island, queens and brooklyn. So we have decided to maybe look in nassau county for a house. Can any of you ladies help us since we are not familar with nassau, what are good places to live that are not crazy expensive. Also what are the good school districts? Thanks ladies, sorry this was so long winded!

Hicksville is a nice area and the taxes aren't TOO crazy. That's what kills you in Nassau - the taxes can be almost $800 a month! We live in Seaford and that's a very nice area as well.

My sister has lived in Bethpage and Hicksville, and if we were to ever go to Nassau, I would probably consider the same.

The best school districts (Herricks, Syosset, Great Neck, Rockville Centre, etc.) are crazy expensive.

Oceanside--where I teach--is an excellent district and a great community to raise a family in. However, the only drawback is that it takes 10 minutes to get to a major parkway from O'side since no parkway runs through it.

Other great but inexpensive districts:

Massapequa (well, depends on what part you live in. there are some expensive parts)
Floral Park-Bellerose/Sewanhaka
Bethpage
Lynbrook
Wantagh (although they're going through some budget crap right now)
Plainedge
North Bellmore

I'm eyeing the Bellmores and Port Washington (meaning I really want to live in Port but its out of my price range so I'll be living in Bellmore) lol
