Nassau post offices that will (or wont) hand-cancel? updated at bottom

I've heard stories about some post offices letting you hand cancel or doing it themselves, and others refusing.

Anyone have experiences (good or bad) with Nassau post offices and hand-cancelling?

Also, if your invite is considered oversized does that mean it's non-machinable and must be hand cancelled anyway?

The Oceanside post office is great about it, that's where I mailed all my invites (save the date, engagement party, shower, wedding).

Stay far far far away from any of the main branches ... like Rockville Centre. They are just too busy. They'll tell you that they will hand cancel them, but they don't. And I know of people who have mailed invites there ... they actually did hand canceled them, and then ran them through the machine anyway

The Carle Place post office hand canceled our invites, they just asked that we drop them off first thing in the AM so that they can work on them throughout the day

Don't worry so much about hand cancelling.

The invites have to run thru a sorting machine anyway after the stamps are cancelled.
No one received a damaged invitation, and in all the years, I have never received one either.

I went to Manhasset and they hand cancelled without a problem

ok, I'm back. The woman in Merrick hand cancelled ours and was very sweet. She said they won't be run through the machine.

Ours have a ribbon on them so even if they run through a different machine, the fewer the better

they are out of my hands, let the stalking begin!!
