National Holiday on 9/11?

I know it's been discussed to designate 9/11 as a national holiday, but just noticed that on that date in my Franklin Planner, it's called 'Patriot Day'. Is this something offical now? I wonder....

I think something should be done for that day.....

I also think it should be a national holiday, but I am pretty sure it is not. I think they just call it Patriot's Day for acknowledge it in some way from an other day.

IMO I think it would be treated like another day off from work to BBQ or hang out not to do anything in rememberance of the lives lost

from what I've read, the president honored those lost by declaring Sept 11, Patriots day. I believe he did it around the anniversary last year.

I guess its a new holiday, but not a national day off work.

the president declared it patriot day...bt that does not designate it as a day off of work...just an acknowlegemant

IMO there is Memorial Day...think about the 2000+ that died in Pearl Harbor...or the 10,000+ EACH on Iwo Jima and Okinawa...

while they are not in our recent memories...those could have been our grandfathers....

Stef - Not all holidays are to celebrate happy things - what about Memorial day? That's considered a national holiday but it's to remember those who died in previous wars.....that's very sad too.

When did Bush do this? I don't remember hearing about it recently.....
