Re: Nationalities

FYI:

your nationality...does not have to be about an organized country...

for example:
the Serbians were nationalistic even though they were controlled by the Austrians (start of WWI)

the Kurds in Iraq...do not claim that they are Iraqi...but that they are Kurdish...

and yes...you can say that being Jewish is your ethnicity...most historians view the Zionist movement as a nationalistic movement...especially since the diaspora of the Jewish people...they have not had a 'nation' to call their own...so they use their culture...Many Jews are not religious...but will refer to themselves as Jews...

Re: Nationalities

I am Texan. Seriously, I was never in my life asked 'what I was' until I moved up here 8 years ago. Suddenly everyone wanted to know my ethnicity/gene pool. I think it's because, compared to Texas and the South, gene pools are much more pure up here. The further South you go, the more diluted the gene pools become because of historic immigration and mixing/mingling.

I'm tall and dark with an olive complexion, but I belong to none of the ethnicities people think I do (Jewish, Greek, Spanish, French, Italian). The most of any one ethnicity I have is Native American...I am a full quarter. Both Cherokee and Sioux. I even had a great grandmother named One Rose. And my great grandfather on the other side was named Ezekiel Bird. Actually it was something else Bird but he was converted by Christian missionaries as a child so was given the Biblical name Ezekiel. As an adult he converted back to Native and grew his hair back into long black braids. Anyway, the rest of me is Scotch-Irish, English, French, Swedish, and German. I don't have one drop of Jewish, Italian or Greek blood like everyone thinks I do. Aren't genes funny?

FH is 50% Irish, 25% German and 25% Lithuanian. And 100% beautiful.

Re: Nationalities

I think nationality also means which country you're legally a part of. For example, when I have travelled overseas and have to fill out my nationality on customs forms, I write USA or American, not Indian.
