Need a Hotel... sad story:forlorn:

Original post by Ericia

Okay ladies... here it is. Very long

On 8/2, I spoke with someone at Oheka to book a room for a night of the wedding. I gave the woman over the phone the date that I was interested in. She then quoated me a rate (considering I wasn't a bride of Oheka) and asked if I would like to book it over the phone, and I said that I would rather wait until my FH and I saw the room, and she was okay with it. She mentioned that she would not be available on the day the day that we would like to see it, but someone would be happy to show us the room.

When we arrived, we received a totally different story. the person at the front desk was UTTERLY rude to us, and said that no one was available to show us a room. WE took it in stride. We explained to her that we came all the way from the Pelham. She didn't seem to care. My FH asked to speak with the manager. The woman called the manager, and whispered something to her over the phone. When the manager arrived, she said that there were no rooms available for our date - they're BOOKED! We asked how could that be, she seemed unmoved. She gave us a bag with a video of Oheka (although we can't stay there), and apologized. She then suggested that we look into The Garden City Hotel.

Well, my FH and I are convinced that the episode was race related. So, now we need to find a nice place for me to get ready and for us to stay for the night. If you guys have suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

I do think you are trying to help. But I guess you have to be in the situation to feel the way she and Fh probably feels. So many times I have wanted to beleive that race was not a factor but all the logical explainations just dont replace your gut instinct sometimes.

I have no idea what happened. I just thought she might want a little more information.

Sorry but thats not an excuse in my opinion!!!! I cant believe people could be that rude. Its 2004 for Petes sake and they were potential paying customers.

I am so sorry you had to go through this Its their loss.

I agree I did assume it was race, and we really don't have proof of that, but even if it isn't a racial issue, the way they rated them was SO totally wrong. Plus the way they said one thing on the phone and another in person and the shady way they were acting amkes me think it was a racial thing. Sometimes you have to trust your gut. Either wya, it's not a place I'd want to stay f that's the wya they treat potential customers

The fox hollow is beautiful, and so convenient for you too. they have been great so far with me and all of our reservations.

the only problem is that i wanted to add more rooms about 3 months ago and the hotel was already booked for my wedding.

I would do something about it if you felt it was race related. That's just so wrong in my book.

I thought Fox Hollow had rooms there too?

GC Hotel is georgeous too.

I'm so disgusted with what happened to you.

im sorry that you and your FH had to go through that. I have experienced some really obnoxious people during this whole planning extraviganza. What I do is vent to FH, and then go somewhere else.

But i wanted to tell you that we are staying at Fox Hollow Inn, (we are getting married at Woodbury CC) I have a ton of friends that stayed there.. and theyve said nothing but really great things about them - not to mention they are NEXT door to you!!!!

The way they treated you was wrong, either way you look at it. No one was there to feel what you both felt when they were talking to you. Maybe it was a race thing, but maybe it was just that they are snotty and rude in general. I am all for doing the white couple deco. That would be truly messed up if that was the case. I will try and think of hotels for you. Dont let idiots get to you

I can't believe that!!! That is soooo rude!! If I were you I would have hit the roof...I'm not really sure about hotels, but my friend stayed at the garden city hotel her wedding night and loved it--I hope something works out-keep us posted!

I have nothing to add about hotels, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry that you and your FH had to go through that.

Re: Need a Hotel... sad story:forlorn:

that's really awful. I am so sorry that those people treated you that way - there is NO excuse for that kind of treatment. And, if it was race related (which your gut tells you it was), then that is simply detestable.

I would contact the local Better Business Bureau and make a complaint. Nothing gets people moving faster than an official complaint. And, I would also call the hotel and ask to speak to the head manager and complain. Sometimes, the underlings do things without the boss's knowledge, and if the boss is a decent human being, he or she will remedy the problem. If not, your business is better taken somewhere else anyway. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your support! You have no idea how this makes me feel to have so much support!

After reading everyone's post, it just lifted my spirits completely! You truly are gems!

FYI - we have decided to book with Fox Hollow. We checked out their bridal suite, and it's very pretty.

I must say that most of the planning has been great, so I will not allow this incident to shadow what we've experienced.

And thanks to all of your advice, we filed a BBB complaint.

Thanks ladies

I am very sorry this happened to you. I personally did not like Oheka.
Have you looked into the Garden City Hotel? It is beautiful and my experiences with them have been very positive.
