Need a little HR help. its for my mom

My mom works in terminal 4 in JFK in the duty free shop. Her set schedule for the week is 5 days a week off thursday and saturday. of the 5 days she is to work in gourmet (which is cake, coffee, candy) 2 days a week. The other 3 she is in the retail store.

She doesnt make a lot of money in gourmet but its only 2 days a week so it doesnt bother her. She has a set salary and commission. She makes a lot of money in the retail store and that is where her big commission is from.

One of the managers hired a few of her friends and put my mom in gourmet every day for almost 2 weeks and put her friends in the retail store. My mom has been there for a year and these newbies barely 3 months.

My mom said something to the other manager that this isnt fair and that she doesnt want to be in gourmet everyday. This happened Saturday.

Monday her manager told her she was suspended from work for 3 days and had to turn in her ID's. So she was suspended monday, tuesday, wednesday off on Thursday. Her manager also told her call us Friday morning so we can determine what actions need to be taken.

This morning my mom called 3 times and all 3 times got the managers voice mail. She left this person messages and its now almost 2pm and she hasnt heard back from him. If she is to be back in work today she would be in at 3pm.

What else can she do? She cant report in because she doesnt have her badges and her manager isnt returning her phone calls. I told her to call the HR department in San Francisco. But she is really upset about all of this and doesnt want to call and say something that will come back and bite her.

They claimed because of her attitude and she was hostile towards the manager. she wasnt. but they said they are going to do an investigation meaning they are going to talk to other employees that were there when this happened.

She needs to -Document Everything She Can.

Have her sit down and think back to the conversation that prompted the suspension and write up everything that was said and note the names of any other staff that were around when the conversation took place.

Call the manager back and let her know that Home Office/HR will be called if a return call is not received. Simply state that as insturcted she has been trying to reach so so but has been unsuccessful so she will be calling HR for further instructions.

If she has to call HR she should refer to her documentation and report clearly what happened and ask what her current status is.
