Christy - we are using a priest at our hall ...

but it gets technical - he was a priest that left the church. No priest with the church will marry you outside the church. But he was ordained as a priest and therefore will always be one. I can give you contact information if you like!

need a priest

We are using Father Brennan. He was a Roman Catholic priest who broke from the Diocese about 20 years ago. He is now a part of a more liberal chuch, which still holds all the sacraments of the Catholic Church. He is performing a basically Catholic ceremony, at our reception hall. This is kind of funny, because we just met with him today to go over our ceremony (our date is 5/3). He is very nice and accomodating. He will let you say your own vows, or will do traditional or contemporary preset vows. His # is 516-485-0616. His recommended donation is $300. Hope this is helpful!!

I am going to meet with Reverend Allmen. he too is a Roman Catholic priest that left the diocese years ago. Keep in mind - your marriage won't be recognized as a sacrament in the Catholic Church if ou marry outside of a church. I don't know if this matters to you - but you should make sure you know the details! check out www.drvc.org for details.

Will your marriage be recognized in the church if he is no longer with the church? Just wondering, because I'm having similar problem.

I am having an interfaith marriage. Do you think your priest will perform a ceremony outside at the hall with a Rabbi/Cantor? If so do you think it will still be recognized in the church?

Buttafli1277 ...

technically any marriage outside of the church will not be recognized in the church. But that is not canon law, it's diocesan (sp?) law - which to me is simply not right, but I'll keep my opinions to myself! :-) What we wanted was to get married outdoors in the garden that God did create, right? So we are, and then after our marriage, sometime within the next few years, we will have it blessed in the church and therefore it will be recognized. I too have spun away from the catholic faith but still believe in christianity in my heart - which part, I have yet to figure out. Anyway, as for the priest and rabbi - yes, Father Wilshere does do those ceremonies often. You may want to call him for some clarification. But another option may be for you to write the pope and get a dispensation, since you are marrying someone of a different religion. I don't really know the rules of this, b/c my FH and I are both catholic. Good Luck and email me with any questions. [email protected]

I believe that he will do the ceremony with the Rabbi. He mentioned about doing interfaith. The church will not recognize the marriage if it is conducted by a priest that is no longer a part of the church. This goes for any of those we've been discussing here. If you would like the sacrament to be recogized by the Roman Catholic Church, you should check with a priest who is still part of a parish.
