Need advice

Hello everyone. I have a kind of awkward request. I wanted to know if anyone has the name of a really great marriage counselor. We need someone to help us through the first year. If you could FM me or respond, that would be good. Thank you in advance.

Re: Need advice

are you in long island or NYC? I see a woman weekly who is located in downtown manhattan...she is amazing and specializes in couples therapy.

I know it's good to get referrals, but try and do an internet search as well. You will come up with lots of names, and then you might have to do a trial and error period where you go through a few (you can go and meet with them first to 'pre-screen' and see if you might click, then take DH.)

I think it's great you are seeking counsel. In my opinion, everyone should be in therapy! It's a wonderful thing...and I look forward to it every week!

FM me if you have any ?'s.

Not an strange request at all - in fact there is an article in a NY bridal mag I picked up yesterday (I forgot the name!) that going to see a counselor now paves the way for great communication through out the marriage. I don't have the name of a marriage counselor - but I do have a ton of suggestions. First take a look at your health benefits, usually you can call your provider and they can refer you. Get a list of a few in your area, and call each to see who you are confortable with. If you are in school - give a call to the university counselor - they always know people to refer. Your regular med. doctor may be able to refer as well. Good Luck!

Wow, thank you girls! I am located on Long Island so that would work better for me. I also think therapy is for everyone. It just took some time to convince my DH! I will do research within my health benefits. Again, thank you for responding and lending your support. It is always great here!

Also check with you employer. I know we had some program called 'MCI Cares' then it was called something else and it was specifically to help with 'emotional health' recommendations/support.
