not sure what you mean... are you just getting the licence? bc if thats the case from what I understand thats just a paper saying that you can get married... after you get the licenece you still need to be married, just bc you have a licence does mean your married yet....if im wrong please corerrect me. I also wouldnt get the licence too far in advance bc I think they do expire. NOW... if you mean your going to get the licence and THEN get married w/o a party or anything then that your choice, it might upset people since they will be coming to your wedding to see you get married! but thats a choice you and FH need to make. after all you know your family better then us.
you are correct and infact it expires after 60 days and you would have to apply for it again if you dont get married within 60 days. I am going to guess the OP means going to city hall and actually getting married, not sure though. I was actually going to ask the same thing you did bc i wasnt sure
ETA: i just read the rest of the posts lol and yes i guess actually getting married not just a marriage license

Re: need advice!!!
Your reasons (not that you really need them) are very important. Immigration laws are always changing, and it's def. something you don't want to play with. Who cares if people get pissed off. In the end it is def. going to benefit you AND your family!

Re: need advice!!!
my honest opinion is that you should keep it totally under raps, which means no wedding band. i know some people do this sort of thing for taxes, health insurance, etc. i would say that more than a handful of guests will take your wedding a lot less seriously if they know it's not the real thing.

Re: need advice!!!
First of all i think it's a great idea to do way in advance because it will be once less thing to worry about right before the actually religious ceremony. As for the family... you know your family best and if you think they'd get mad if they knew you were married way before the wedding then don't tell them or do tell them if you think they'd be cool with it.
