Need advice

Need advice

Some of you may have read my situation with our co-op purchase on the Newleywed board. I posted this there too, but I am in desperate need of advice from moms and moms-to-be about preparing for my baby's birth in case it happens to be when we are still in our 1BR apt with about 50 boxes full of stuff.

Basically I need some help coordinating what to purchase and what is absolutely necessary for a newborn. I'm thinking of having all the essential baby stuff in 1 or 2 boxes so that if we move before the baby then it will be easy to label and if we have the baby in our current place, I can find things easily.

Here's the link to the other post

Thanks!

Re: Need advice

I had Justin 3 weeks early. Before our apartment was ready, therefore, the 3 of us were in y old bedroom!

I would only keep out what is absolutely necessary first. You really do not even need to put up a changing table in the beginning. I walways changed J on the couch or bed. You do not need the brib, only a bassinet which is smaller. No need for any of the big stuff yet - highchair, walker, swing.

For a brand newborn - they really do not take up that much space. You will probably be okay until he/she is about 3 months.

Hope this helps.

Re: Need advice

Definitly not a changing table..you also can be without a highchair..
Really just clothes, toys and a crib
I'm sure you can make do without the rest for awhile.
If you can fit a playpen.. that might be good too..
Something to bathe the baby in.. even if its put in the sink
As I think I will post it..
I had billy for a month in a one bedroom till we moved and it really wasnt so bad.. all they really need is YOU and there food and there crib and they are perfectly happy
Edited to say DONT STRESS IT, all this means was there is something more perfect for all of you to live.

Re: Need advice

I think you will need your breast/formula feeding supplies, diapers, burp clothes, some clothes, bassinet w/a few sheets (because you will need to change them often), some towels so you can change the baby in the bassinet or on the bed (to lie him/her on), pacifer, your breast feeding pillow (don't know the name of that thing), a blanket to wrap the baby in, car seat ready to go, maybe a rattle or little infant toy, your camera/video camera (don't pack that away!), bath stuff, lotions, wipes.

Don't even take the big stuff out of the boxes yet. You will not need them for a while.

Re: Need advice

i would add to this list,....a swing or a bouncer if you get one. I know that these are bulkier items...but I found them VERY handy...esp the bouncer.
It give u something to put the baby in when u need to run to the bathroom- and you will be doing plenty of that post recovery!

Re: Need advice

I think you got good advice here.

I would just worry about:

*onesies (at least 10)
*stretchies (pj's - at least 10)
-- I say 10 because they can dirty up to 4-5 of them in a day, new parents are always caught off guard..as time goes by that will be 2-3 a day! So the quicker you can wash them, the less you'll need !
*Have some formula on hand just incase the BFing takes some adjusting and you want to supplement.
*A light blanket. If you have AC in, it will be cool.
*Prepare at least 8 diapers per day! Newborns poop all day. So you can change even every hour. But 8-12 a day will be more than enough to have.
*A bassinet for the baby to sleep in (unless youre co-sleeping)..
*Have a binky incase the baby is fussy and you are getting fustrated, a binky MAY be the most soothing solution. Never say Never
My son loves it so much, his eyes roll back when it goes into his mouth Its like a DRUG! So JUST INCASE (oh, the hospital will give you one ! )

'Take' from the hospital
*Nursing pads
*Maternity pads
*Lalonin cream
ANYTHING ELSE you can get
I had a great nurse that was constantly getting me more stuff, and every time John came to visit, I sent him home with 'goodies' for me. Saves a few bucks! I little teeny tube of Lanolin is like $7 !

I think thats its. You'll be fine, Niha !

and like everyone said, the ONLY THING the baby NEEDS, its your ARMS !

Re: Need advice

Thanks everyone for the great lists. I'm feeling more relaxed about the whole thing. It's hard not to feel bad, since on my pregnancy boards, all of the preggos are posting pics of their finished nurseries, and we haven't done anything like that yet. But, I have to remind myself that a lot of it is for the parents when the baby is very tiny and doesn't even know what color the walls are!

I'm going to print this post out. I 'think' my suprise shower might be this weekend, and at work my shower is next Weds (they already told me about it), so Memorial Day weekend, I will do an inventory and buy whatever else I need. I will probably store all the big items at my sister's.

Re: Need advice

Niha, take it as a blessing in disguise that you never had a chance to prepare the baby's room, now you will be able to do a LITTLE BOY OR a LITTLE GIRLS room ! YAYYY !!! FUN FUN FUN !!!
