Need Advice about going back to work

Anyone have or had major anxiety about going back to work? I had an unexpected longer time to be home with my daughter. Was only planning on taking my 12 weeks until she was premature and then decided to stay this whole school year with her. I am sure it has made it harder to think about going back. I have thought of just about everything possible to try and stay home with her another year, but we probably can't afford it. The thought of September coming along makes me cry every time. I would love to find something to do from home but haven't been able to. I even thought of taking in a child to watch, but don't really know anyone who needs that right now. They called from the personnel office today and I didn't answer the phone because I am not ready to say 'yes, I am coming back', even though I know it is inevitable. How did you do it? Anyone have any advice for me? I don't think I can continue to cry about it for the next three months (or should I say DH can't continue listening to me).
She also requires different type of care than a full term child. She has therapy three times a week, sees many doctors and after 7 months I am still exclusively pumping breast milk. She is 7 months old and is almost tipping the scale at 8 pounds. Was also thinking about trying to collect disability because she requires different type of care. Anyone know anything about that either?

could you find something part time at first, take another year off of school and work part time this year instead, kind of ease yourself back into it?

Re: Advice about going back to work

First, lots of .

I was home for about 17 weeks with my son. I went back to work full time the last week in January. I had a lot of the same anxieties before going back. I was REALLY stressing myself out trying to figure out a way to do something from home, ANYTHING that would give us X amount of $$ per month (okay, well ALMOST anything ) My husband would try to 'help' by saying 'well, maybe you could do this... or this... etc.' OR he'd say 'did you think of anything today' (in a positive way). Everytime he brought it up I would stress even more and almost get mad at him for 'making' me feel pressured.

In my case, after reasoning everything through, it was better and less stressful to go back to my job (which I like), and have my son in daycare. It has really worked out well, and its not a bad situation like I imagined it was going to be.

Just think, your daughter will be about 11 months old (?) by the time September comes along. It sounds like she's doing better and better as she gets older. Maybe you will feel different and her needs will be a little different by the time you have to go back.

I guess what I'm saying is even though there is A LOT of stuff to think about and A LOT of options for you to analyze, don't stress yourself out too much! You will find a way to make everything work. Even if you commit to your school now, it doesn't mean that you can't come up with an alternative in the meantime.

Good luck and hang in there!

Try not to stress... Im assuming you are a teacher...could you maybe do some private tutoring lessons through Sylvan or other tutor centers...

I know they make good $$, and you make your own hours...

A friend of mine does this....she got trained by (i think its Sylvan) with that and her degree, she either goes to childrens houses or have them come to her... she let a few schools know and ran in add in the paper, plus whatever kids she picked up from the center...I think she was making 35/hour...

It probably wont be as much as you bring home now... but maybe it could hold you over another year...???? and you could be home with your daughter... I hope everything works out

I think the fact that your daughter needs so much care is a different story than just 'going back to work' support.
Going back to work is hard but after a bit you get into a new routine and so does the baby and together you really do make it work. It does not seem like that can happen, but I promise you somehow it does.
And yes, some days it is hard but other days it isn't so bad.
In your situation you would need to figure out who can care for your baby and do all the appointments. You probably can't just bring her to any daycare center, right?
I work from home, but not doing one of those mail-in type careers. I just have a great boss who allows me to hold a management position in our company and work from home.
Can you tutor children after school on a regular schedule? I know tutors make a good salary, but of course you may need to have a nanny come in during those hours as well.

I guess I shouldn't have said probably, I have figured it out and we CAN'T afford it. Thank goodness we had some savings this year to fall back on, but am quickly going through that.
