Need advice about wedding showers

I just got invited to a shower in a couple months and unfortunately I can't go. Next week I'm going to go shopping for something from the registry and have my FMIL bring it the day of the shower. I think very highly of her so here's my concern...do you think anyone will be offended that I can't make it? I don't want to have any problems since it's FH side of the family - will the fact that I am sending a gift in my absence smooth things over? Would you take it personally if someone wasn't there?

There were a few people who did not make it to my shower, and it didn’t offend me at all.

I realize that not everyone's life revolves around my wedding and wedding shower. So if someone can't make it, I would not take it personally at all.

I think sending a gift in your absence is perfectly acceptable. Don't sweat it!
