Mmm are you sister to the bride or anything like that? If you are not...I would say nix the BM dress idea because it will compete with whatever she has planned and look as if you are trying to steal the show. I would go with somethign much simpler and mainstream. Try Nordstrams or Macys's. Bill Levkoff is typically about $130+

Depends on how formal the wedding is

Well depends what kind of wedding it is...If they wrote black tie then no its not too formal...Even for formal it is fine, but i would try and find out about what type of bm's dresses they have bc you dont want to have a similar dress as them, and the second one is similar to alot of bm dresses.
If its semi-formal then no those dresses are a bit too dressy.
Also depends, is it saturday night, sunday afternoon, the location, youhave to take all of those into consideration

thats such an incredibly rude thing to say. no one said i was trying to compete or steal the show. and the headline of that website is 'bridesmaids dresses & formal dresses.'

Its not rude. It is the truth. I never said yoU WERE tying to steal the brides thunder. I said it would APPEAR that way because the dresses are BM dresses. However with how defensive you are getting, makes me wonder...
I went to a wedding where someone did that and everyone just shook their head the whole night because her dresses were so similar to the ones the members of the BP were wearing, but in a diff color.
And yes it may say formal however as other ladies said, depends HOW formal. Most BMs dresses have a certain 'look' to them. We see tons of pics on this site of BM dresses and many of them have the same basic style; strapless, a-line, long, etc. If you were going to a formal event not a wedding, i would say sure, those are great choices because they stand alone. However the fact that it IS a wedding and there will be other women wearing BM dresses, may cause the problem I mentioned in my first post.
It was advice and like all advice, take it or leave it. Thats your perogative.

Re: Need advice! Are these....
yeah but what if its black tie? then you do need to be very dress. Maybe that girl at the wedding did it on purpose but theres a big chance that she didn't...I mean most weddings i have gone to i had no clue from ahead of time what the bm's were wearing, so if she got something similar then maybe it was just a coincidence.
Some girls get t-length dresses for bm's or short and simple, and its VERY likely someone else at a wedding will wear something very similar to that.
A long black dress is very typical for a guest to wear to a wedding.
I am sure Mrsbrags7706 is not trying to do that bc otherwise she wouldn't even wonder if maybe its too much and ask for advice, otherwise if those were her intentions then i am sure she wouldn't even ask for advice.
MOST people now get bm dresses that are very similar to formal dresses, and some choose not to go to a store and buy bm dresses but instead go for something that is formal wear.
Again like i said before, depends what the invite says, if its black-tie then you will need to get something similar to what you posted, that means they REALLY want you to get all dressed up, men in tuxes and women with long very formal dresses. If its formal then that is when i would maybe try finding out the style of the bm dresses...Not even bc i think you might be outshining them, but simply bc im sure you wouldn't want to look dressed the same as the bm's

Totally agree with you Espo, but as my original post said and as you yourself said, it can look awkward if she ends up ina dress thats almost exactly like the BM dress. I nevr said she was trying to outshine the bride, merely warning her it might look that way to the bride and the guests and I wouldnt want her to feel awkward and out of place. My post was out of concern and trying to bring something to light she may not have thought of.
However she wrote a nasty post and then pulled her original post which seems to be a bit of a temper tantrum and unecesseray since we are all trying to help one another.
As I said, if it is super formal, then you look for a formal dress, but if the formal event is a wedding, then you need to at least know what the BP is wearing before you choose a dress that might look like theirs to avoid any uncomfortable situations.

Yeah i know, i would feel weird if i wore a dress similar to the bm dresses. Hmmmm maybe something to similar to what you posted mrsbrags but black and slim fitting, not ones that come out? I dont know i think the best bet, if you can that is, find out what the bm dresses look like.

I agree. If you can't find out, for your own sake and comfort levels, try mainstream stores that carry nicer formal gowns like Bloomingdales, Nordstrams, Macy's and shoot forget the other one... I am sure you can find something beautiful that will make you feel great and avoid the gray area of bridal part/BM dresses.
