Need Advice: Band vs. DJ?

Need Advice: Band vs. DJ?

Ok, I have come to the conclusion that since I booked everything so far in advance and have had time to dwell on my decisions, I probably rushed into a lot of them.

I have booked a DJ but after going to the Oheka showcase and seeing Central Park Orchestra perform, I'm thinking maybe I want a band. I originally didn't want a band because it's so much money when they take so many breaks and there were some songs where I wanted to hear the original (especially our first dance song since it is not popular at all!!). But after hearing Central Park perform, maybe a band won't be so bad?

Any thoughts/ideas/input? If I cancel my DJ within the next month I only lose my deposit and don't have to pay the remaining balance. I like my DJ but I don't know, I'm just having second thoughts.

Help! TIA!!

personally i think bands are way better for weddings. we are both music lovers and knew that a band was going to make our wedding great! we booked with times square orchestra.

but band vs. dj is certainly a personal choice

What about doing both? I know some people who had a DJ and a band. That way there is no compromise. I'm a singer and I prefer hearing the original versions of songs so I decided to go with a DJ.

Okay. . .this is coming from a musician who is marrying a musician.

We decided to go DJ instead of band. . .this was a long, hard decision (that's what she said!) for FH and I. Bands are usually way too expensive and the songs don't sound like what they do on the radio.

If i had, like $4,000 more in my budget, that would have been a no brainer. I feel like I'm doing my musician brethren a disservice, though. . .

For us we wanted a DJ. We are both music teachers and lovers but e knew we wanted a DJ. It was in or budget and we often dislike the way bands perform more current music. Sometmes it just sounds off. It is also tricky sometimes because they don't know/can't play some songs you might like! Bands are great if they are good but for us a DJ made mro sense!

I went with a band and i know it was the right decision... if you get a good band the songs will sound very close to the real thing, they are in the business of imitation and will not try to put their own spin on things. As for the breaks, each member takes ten minutes per hour and they rotate so its only one performer at a time... all bands are that way because they are in a union and those are the rules! Bands are a lot more expensive but we made room in our budget because it was important to us, we went with Hank Lane they have about 15 different bands and will help you pick one that is perfectly suited for you and FH's taste

I never even gave it a second thought. I always knew I would have a band. There were only two priorites on spending money on my wedding. The venue/food and the band. People love live entertainment. You can turn your radio on any time and here what a DJ plays. If you get a good band, it makes the party,

I understand if it's not in your budget you have to do what you have to do, but a dj reminds me of a sweet sixteen or bat mitzvah (sorry).

I'm actually using the same band that played Billy Joel's wedding. I definitly put my money on the entertainment.
