need advice: delicate BM dress situation

i'm really having a tough time settling on the kind of dress i want for the BP. i abandoned yellow as the dress color bc a lot of my girls feel it will be really unflattering on their skin tone, and i want them to be comfortable. now i've decided on navy for the dresses, but the only ones i seem to like are satin, which i think is a really unforgiving fabic. also, one of my girls (an old friend who's struggled a lot with illness and still does) has a colostomy bag, which she's really self-conscious about, and every navy satin dress i find is totally slinky. i thought it might be possible to have the dress altered--maybe let it out some and sew in a light crinoline?

any ideas?

I would say you really have to wait and see how they look when you try them on. You might think something wont be very 'forgiving' but when you try it on, it'll look great. Or a dress might look great in pictures but you'll hate it when you see it in person. No use stressing over it until you actually see your girls in it.

i don't have any ideas b/c i'm not too educated on fabrics and different types of dresses yet, but i think it was really sweet of you to change the color - i wonder if many other brides would be so flexible! GL, i hope you find something that works for everyone!

Does your friend have Crohns?

Do you want your girls to wear matching dresses? Maybe something with an empire waist would be good for her. Also look into tissue taffeta as a fabric which I think is more forgiving than satin. If you aren't set on a dress, let me know what you have in mind and I'll look for some things that fit the bill.

I agree. Take them to look at dresses or maybe even just your one BM who will be the most self consious.

My sister has a prostetic leg so I had to compromise on the dresses also. Go look. I thought satin would be bad too but it really depends on the style of the dress. Good Luck!

she has an immune system defect that medical science seems to know little about. this has translated into alopecia (sp?). ulcertive colitis (which ended in surgerical removal of her colon), and now crohns. there are a bunch of pics in my album of dresses i've been thinking about. my friend whom i'm worried about lives down in maryland, which makes finding the right dress even more challenging bc getting together for a shopping trip is difficult.

i think you will definitely have to see it on them.... I am trying to keep in mind ... when looking at dresses.... that I should stick with A LINE styles.... for a bridal party of different shapes..
Have you tried Alfred Angelo? Bill Levkoff? They have a lot of nice A line styles that may be more forgiving (even in satin)

I wearing a navy bridesmaid dress for my FSI wedding. It is really simple but really cute. The pictures DOES no justice and we are getting it hemed to the knee (but keeping the detail). The fit is really sophicated and you can add any color ribbon to make it pop. Honestly wasn't impressed by it online but it was really cute in person.

I was thinking about Yellow dresses too for my bridesmaids. The one's i told have been ok with it so far. We're doing our wedding at the end of the summer, so they all keep saying- 'Got to be tan!'

Wow, that's really tough. I have Crohn's but luckily a mild case, although I know people with severe Crohsn or UC, one who had a temporary ostomy.

I'd stay away from anything too tight/clingy or too light in color, and ask your friend what she feels comfortable in. You are a good friend

OK I looked at the dresses in your album and unfortunately I think satin Jim Hjelm dresses are going to be difficult. They are all very very slim cut, and tight-fitted, and really show the body. You can have your friend try on a sample and see how she feels, but his dresses are going to be tough.

These 2 seemed ok, since they don't show every bump on your body:
