I don't post on here often but have always gotten wonderful advice from you girls and could use some right about now. So I received a call Friday that my dress came in. I was excited beyond belief as my mother in law is in from out of town and jumped on the chance to make an appt for Sunday (she will be in this weekend). I called the shop, where I purchased my gown, and made an appt to bring 3 of my 9 BM in to look at BM gowns and try on my dress while we are there. My mother and mother in law will also be with us. They informed me at the shop that they could accommodate my appt and could pull the sample for me to try on while I was there, however, they would not be able to pull my actual gown. They explained that it is upstairs in storage and they do not pull any dresses on weekends. I told them I understand rules are rules (even though I don't completely agree with this policy) however my mother-in- law is in for the weekend could they please make an exception to which I received back a firm 'no'. I am spending good money on my dress...possibly even ordering 9 BM dresses with them and I am feeling very frustrated with their inability to compromise on this with me. Has anyone heard of a policy such as this? Feeling frustrated need advice....

hmmm.. This does sound very strange to me. If you put a deposit and are paying for a dress then it is your dress and you should be able to try it on whenever you want. It's not like your just showing up and not giving them a chance to get it.
I would ask why this is their policy.

I have heard of this. Reason for not pulling the dress on a weekend: if the place gets too busy, there is a good chance they feel that your dress can get misplaced. I had the same problem as you however, they had no problem bringing it to me on the Friday. I understand your frustration, but this was the explanation I received from my place. Besides, God forbid they misplace my dress! I would be so pissed. Its more of a precaution than anything.

While I can understand this whole policy to an extent... I am upset with their unwillingness to compromiseand felt they were rude and abrupt with me on the phone. This is written no where on my receipt and I have had no understanding of this up until today. I think I would have a hard time having 9 girls purchase dresses there and give them that business. I am considering paying in full for the dress and taking it elsewhere for alterations. Am I being overemotional?

I don't think your being overemotional. I understand and kinda agree with the reasons a shop gave Sandra. But they should try to accomodate you or at least make a valid effort to see if they could accomodate you, even if in the end they couldn't.

Yea ITA. It bothers me that they were so stern. They should have explained to you why. And be sincere.

I definitely tried to be nothing but nice on the phone. I find that helps more than just whipping out the b*tch card in situations like this. But they were so short with me. I just feel for what girls spend on their dresses the level of customer service should really be there. That is what kills me most.

Did you try speaking to another person?
I asked for a manager. She was the worst of them all. 'No. Our policy is we pull dresses only on weekdays. We are not equipped with staff/time/space so do so on weekends.' Is what she said. I went on to explain my situation and got dead silence on the other end before hearing ... 'Yeahhh, we can't' In a nasty tone.

Where did you order it? I'd simply call and ask to speak to a manager, tell them the situation and if they still say 'no' tell them, that's fine. Please have my dress ready for me, I will be paying for it sunday and taking the rest of my business elsewhere, there are plenty of other places that can alter my dress and appreciate my business and that deserve the business of my mother, mother in law and NINE bridesmaids...
I think they might change their tune when they hear how much money will be walking out the door.
sorry, opened the thread to reply, got side tracked at work and didn't get to read your updates...
I'd still pull out the b i t c h card and threaten to take your business else-where.
I can understand their policy BUT they could be NICE about it. Thats just poor customer service and you shouldn't have to deal with that...

That's SO strange. I've never heard of it before. I understand the reasoning behind it, but still that's no excuse for the rudeness. Brides pay an arm and a leg for gowns, they should really be working to accomodate you! I'd s u c k it up, go on a Friday, and order my BM dresses elsewhere.
