Need Advice: My e-ring

In the last few months my prongs have began to shift...I know this is not unheard of but I now need to go in for the second time in as many months to get them adjusted. This seems a little excessive to me. Also, the prong has now scratched the center stone so badly that I can see it with the naked eye...yes I know other people would not be able to notice it but I can and it upsets me. What should I do about this? Can I go to our jewler and ask them to make me a new setting and replace the diamond or am I being unrealistic??

The prong scratched the stone? That sounds very fishy. Has this ring been appraised?

I know that I got my ring 12/14/02 and I banged my hand on the washing machine.

ANYWAY..

I hear the diamond move when I shake it by my ear. I am getting the prongs tightened on Sat!!!!!

I heard that diamonds are UNABLE to scratch.. are you SURE?????

To you..

Ron won't let me wear the ring till Sat when we go fix it and I miss my BIG BABY!!!

Deb, your prong should not be able to scratch your diamond

I'm so rough, I bang my diamond all the time, and not a single scratch penetrates.

How did the stone get scratched? It sounds funny to me as well...when they were 'adjusted' did you stay and watch the work being done yourself or did you 'drop' it off and come back later?

If you weren't there, are you sure this is your stone? can it be possible that someone was trying to remove it in a hurry? I hate to think like that, but I don't trust anyone, especially jewelers. I know some horror stories but I just want you to be sure first. Good Luck and I am sorry about the stone.

Gold has a bigger tendency to bend and shift, it happens all the time, but the diamond is worrying me a bit. Are you sure it's not just something that left a residue on the diamond? Maybe Jennbaby is on target, if the ring is white gold, and the prong rubbed on it, the white gold could have left a mark on the diamond. White gold is a coating so it can come off...

I have white gold and I am always banging my ring into something on accident and I havent had any problems with the band or diamond.

Diamonds are suppose to be very strong, I would definatly look into the scratches on the diamond.

White gold isn't the natural color of gold. It's gold that has been treated and is in most cases placed over yellow gold (the natural color) and over time, usually a lot of time, it will start to turn yellow. This doesn't mean it's not valuable, or good quality...

Ladies, about the white gold, I believe gold is naturally yellow, so to get white gold, it is coated. Thats why 10 years down the line, white gold may begin to look a little dull, and you get it re-dipped.

White gold is mixed with nickel & zinc to dilute the gold color to a much lighter yellow. The final process of white gold is plating this diluted gold with rhodium, a natural white metal.

I'm pretty sure that white gold is the same as yellow gold except its mixed with nickel and platinum. When a metal is dipped or coated in gold, that is called gold plating.
