I may not be 100% accurate on this, but I think I remember in HS science class that the karat of gold is really how much of a percent of gold is really in that item. For example a 10K gold bracelet is only 10% gold, a 14K gold is only 14% gold, etc....My unvle went to italy a few years ago and brought me back a gorgous gold necklace with 6 gold balls, 2 of white gold, 2 pink gold, 2 yellow gold.

I found this info on a jewelers website --'White gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals such as nickel, silver and palladium. White gold can be 18ct, 14ct, 9ct or any karat. For example, 18ct yellow gold is made by mixing 75% gold with 25% other metals such as copper and zinc. 18ct white gold is made by mixing 75% gold with 25% other metals such as nickel, silver and palladium. So the amount of gold is the same but the alloy is different.
When white gold rings are new they are coated with another white metal called Rhodium. This Rhodium is very white and very hard, but it does wear away eventually. To keep a white gold ring looking its best it should be re Rhodium plated approximately once a year.'

LOL. The poor girl has an issue with her DIAMOND, and we are arguing over what makes white gold.It's mine and Jennbaby's fault, we started it by asking her what it was made of. I apologize.

Since none of us are any expert on the stone or what happened, my best advice would be to take it back to where you purchased it. Please let us know the outcome. All the best. I find it hard to understand that a prong can scratch a diamond, it should be the other way around. Diamond is very strong/hard...not that I am saying it cannot be scratched or broken, it can, but by your prongs ..

Sorry I missed all this, man you take a call from a vendor and look at all you miss in twenty minutes. Ok ladies. Here we go. The ring is platinum (NOT EVEN WHITE GOLD LMAO) last time we got it fixed IT DID NOT LEAVE MY SIGHT. It is appraised...darren got it done before he even gave it to me. Lastly, I suppose it could be residue..but I have cleaned it multiple times since I have noticed this and nothing has changed about what I see...maybe I need to go buy myself a loop....humn! I gotta tell you, I don't even know if I can say this on here but if it is a scratch then I am going to be mighty P I S S ED!

LMAO, it figures!Now I'm even more weirded out. It takes a hell of a lot for platinum to bend, have you thought about trying another jeweler just to have them check it out?? This still sounds fishy.

Maybe it is not a scratch? Could it be an inclusion in the diamond? Depending on the clarity of the diamond, some diamonds have inclusions that can be visible to the naked eye. I hope everything works out okay.
