FH and I are in desperate need of a new bed. We need a firm bed, but I would like a pillowtop so that at least I won't feel like I'm sleeping on a slab of concrete. FH and I both have back problems from the bed we have now (which was my brand new, but cheap bed when we first started dating, and since I wasn't expecting to be sharing it with anyone, it was perfect for my needs - it is now too small for the two of us, and there's a dip in FH's side, no matter how many times we've flipped it), so we need a bed that will support our backs, but will be really comfortable. Help, please!

Re: Need advice on a new bed
Sterns and Foster are supposed to make the best mattresses but they are a little pricey. The best thing to do is go to sleepys or someother mattress store and see what feels comfy.
I have a very firm bed for back issues...and I love it...no pillow top...DH definitely got used to it...and now if we sleep on a soft bed he complains...
I think you should go to a showroom and try to get the firmest bed that you can stand...you'll be thankful in the future

Re: Need advice on a new bed
I have a Stearns and Foster mattress, and it was honestly worth every penny. How my neck is aligned when I'm asleep causes me monster migraines, and since we got this bed, my headaches that I wake up with have significantly decreased.
ETA it's not a pillow top, but it's not at all like concrete either. JUST firm enough that my body isn't sunken 6 inches below my head!

Re: Need advice on a new bed
I just wonder how realistic it is to lay on a mattress for five minutes to determine whether it's really going to be comfortable to lay on for 8 hours at a time (or 6 in our case ).

It's the Drakemeyer. We got it at Rockaway Bedding.

Really?? We bought it in 2001... maybe they don't make it any more.
Sorry!

Re: Need advice on a new bed
Hi,
My FI has back problems and in March we bought a Spring Air 'Spine Saver' mattress. It has the pillow top and we got it at Sleepy's on Rt. 110 in Huntington.
I love it and look forward to falling into my bed everynight
Good luck!

Re: Need advice on a new bed
Okay, I looked on the Stearns and Foster website, and the one we have is the Sandleheath (I'm sure I spelled that wrong!!). I guess they changed the name in the last 2 years.

Oh my! A cashmere mattress!!! Way out of my price range, unfortunately. But I'm packing a bag and staying at your house tonight, ok?

Re: Need advice on a new bed
LOL Sounds cozy! Now I'm wondering if my bed might be the root of some of my headaches. I know it certainly has something to do with the back/neckaches, but I suffer from entirely too frequent headaches. Hmmm...
