need advice on tanning

i'm pretty pale, but I want to look tan for my wedding in July. i've never been to a tanning salon before so I don't know what to expect. Can anyone recommend a good tanning salon in Suffolk county? Also, when should I start tanning to be ready for my July wedding?
What about spray tanning? For anyone who's had it done, would you recommend it over regular tanning?
Thanks!

I would recommend that you start now, and go gradually. I haven't been tanning in years, but I liked Carribean Tan on Sunrise H'way in Sayville. I've never done airbrush tanning, but my friend gets it done at the St. Tropez Spa in Port Jeff.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a tanning salon in or near Smithtown.

Midnite Sun in Hauppauge is where I go during my lunch break. I like the place. I wouldn't recommend the spray tanning. I usually go every day to every other day until I reach the level of tan I want and then I go 2-3 times every week to maintain it, depending upon how much real sun I get from all of the outdoor summer festivities.

I tried spray tanning for the first time a few weeks ago and it was a very horrible experience, I don't recommend it. However, I hear great things about the airbrush spray tanning, there is a vendor on this site that does it, I believe the salon is in great neck. Other girls have raved about this place, I forgot the name but I think it is under the tanning section on the vendor page.

I go to Palm Beach Tanning in Commack--I know they have several locations, as they are a chain.

First thing first---if you don't usually tan in the sun, you probably will NOT tan in the tanning beds.

Consider buying a package and going gradually starting at a low time (like 2-4 min.) and then working your way up to 12-15 min. Also, be sure to get a tanning lotion from them that will work with your skin tone. (Regular tanning oil will not work with the lamps--as the light will reflect off of it)

ETA: i would say NO to spray tanning for your wedding. you run too high of a risk of it coming out streaky or orange.

Victoria's Tanning salon in selden is the only salon i'll go to. Go in a lay down bed... and only go 8minutes in a 20 minute bed the first few times...(the 10 minute beds & standups are MUCH stronger and u might burn)....u'll notice a gradual difference...that's the safest way to go and it'll last the longest. good luck!

ps - i wouldn't go for spray tan for your wedding...u dont know how it's gonna come out. it either comes out great, or turns u orange depending on YOU...u dont wanna take that risk for ur big day!

If you're fair skinned like I am, 8 minutes, surprisingly, may even be too much. I say start really low, go 2-3 times a week (space your days out). I went for 8 minutes earlier this year and my bum was SO burned I could barely sit for days, and I was so upset with myself because I'm not a big fan of tanning to begin with - some say it's more dangerous than the sun!
