Need Advice... Parents entrance into reception...

So... my parents have been separated since I was 2 years old. My mom is remarried... she's been with my stepfather for 25 years or so now. My father has a 'friend' who he's dated on an off for about 20 years. When they're off though, they don't speak for a year at a time. (Very weird relationship). Anyway... now they are just 'friends'... my dilemma arises with the entrance to the reception. My father wants to be announced in with her... but to me she's not family. Do you have any suggestions? Should I let this one go or is it more appropriate for him to walk in alone or with my grandmother?

Ehh.. i say let it go. Who else would he walk in with? and it's just for a 2 second entrance. Not that big of a deal. if you HATED her or she did somehting bad to you then maybe but she has been in his life for a long long time.
Also, it's somewhat awkard and embarrasing to walk in and be announced... I would do anything to make it easier for them so they can feel more at ease and comfortable. So I say let him walk in with her. JMO.

I agree that if you have nothing against her and it is not going to make anyone uncomfortable but would put him at ease, it might be a good idea.

Thanks girls.
I'm just so frustrated with this. My dad also insisted that her parents are invited to the wedding... I met them once about 15 years ago... My mom and I agreed that they shouldn't be invited... AND THEN I found out that when the 'friend' called my mom to RSVP to my shower... she asked to bring along her mom too 'since she's invited to the wedding'... uh... no... she wasn't. UGH!

i agree with this too. i mean, unless she's done something really bad or something, as awkward as you might feel, it's such a minor event in the scheme of the day. i don't think it will really even be noticed by anyone. i'd just let it go and make your dad feel better. why add unnecessary angst i'd just let them have what they want, then you can feel better about it. it'll be over so quick anyway! jmo!

Just have them announce 'father of the bride john escorted by sue', you don't have to explain who it is
