Need Advice(Hall Problems)

Need Advice(Hall Problems)

Okay, so I had to cancel my contract at my hall for various reasons. I just found out they were able to rebook my date. As for a refund the banquet manager could not tell me how much I would be getting back and on top of that I have to wait after the wedding they rebooked to take place. Is this normal? When I asked him how much will I be getting back he said he would have to wait until after the wedding and figure out the figures. Should I get something in writing? has anyone been in this situation?

I haven't been in the situation, but if they were able to rebook the date, I would say you should get back everything you have already given them... definitely try to get something in writing... good luck.

What was the original date?

NO that does not sound right at all. If another couple booked then anything that happens/does not happen on that day is not THEIR responsibility.......sounds mighty fishy to me...

ps - you always get things in writing!!!!!!!!

What does it say in your contract? Does it have a cancellation policy? Something doesn't sound right...if they re-booked...you should get all of your money back now. What hall is this?

Chcek you contract. I was told full refund if they rebooked.

It sounds like your hall is waiting to see if the new wedding will have as many people as your was going to.

This is what my hall told me. If I cancel and they rebook the date, I get everything back minus my initial booking deposit AFTER THE WEDDING HAS TAKEN PLACE for the date I canceled.

There should be no question as to HOW much you are getting back unless they booked for LESS than you booked for. Then you owe them the difference or a part of the difference depending on the contract. If you still have it, try reading over your old contract carefully.

I definitely would try and get a number out of him now and get something in writing. It's so much harder to get your money back once people have it and they can come up with all sorts of ways to keep it.

Good luck!!!

We just booked on Saturday and the deal with any cancelations were that provided that they could re-book the date then we get back about 80%. I think the way they figure it out is based on the difference in price between the 2 occasions (for example your wedding date is replaced by a sweet 16, you are going to get back less $). And the timing had a factor in there too.

You should have a cancellation clause in your contract. You will propbably lose your deposit (since those are almost always nonrefundable). I don't understand what you want to get in writing if you already have a contract? Your hall has a duty to mitigate its damages (which means that it has to try and book the date to another couple) but if it cant or books a wedding for less $ then you most likely be liable to them for the balance.
How much notice did you give the hall b4 cancelling?

I gave them 8 months notice. Yeah you are right I have to check the contract. If I remember correctly the contract says if cancellation they can keep all the downpayments made. I really hope I can get my money back. The initial downpayment was $500 but in total they have $5000 of our money.

Are you getting married in 2006??? DEC???? That is over 2 year away.. They should definately give you back your money... Have your parents talk to them or ask the LI WEDDINGS PEOPLE what they think...... I think it is crazy for you to have to wait till after the wedding..

Can you go above the manager? Is there someone higher? I wouldnt accept that, 5,000 is way too much money for them to be keeping, you should get that back since they rebooked!!! Id go above the managers head and see what ya get! Good luck!!!
