hmmm can you tell him you took it off and the baby hid it on you or maybe flushed it down the toilet (you have no idea how many times as a baby I flushed stuff), but then secretly have it up for sale on ebay.
I am sorry for the mess you are in, its sad, but stay strong and he isnt worth your tears.

you know what i say law, shmaw. You better make it in to some earrings for you and Kayla or a nice pendant for yourself. I did not look at it on Tuesday when I saw you so I don't even know if it will make earrings plus a pendant.
Chippa I like your idea, but mine is nicer
Hey tammy, call me, I have lots to tell you and lots to ask you

LOL true yours is nicer.
A nice pendent for herself and Kayla would be cool to do. I do like that idea. They could have matching pendents

i think that if the ring was given to you as a gift on v-day, or b-day or christmas, then you get to keep it. any other time the fi has a right to get it back.

Tammy is right, that's what I learned in law school also. The engagement ring is something given in anticipation of the marriage (the contract) and if the marriage does not happen, the ring must be given back.
Hope you are okay

Oh no from the other post I read I would not give the ring back. He would have to take me to court.

Let him take you to court. In the meantime, get any proof that he owes you money together in one place. You will need it if he does take you to court. I would also NOT keep the ring in my place. You don't want him to break in or try to take it from you in front of your daughter. Just tell him 'I don't keep it here anymore' But it in a bank safety box. And if he ever threatens you or starts banging on your door for hours YOU need to call the POLICE. This stuff is NOT a joke. The police will not take the ring from you, especially if you do not have it on site. He can go from angry to a full rage and then you will need a restraining order. Protect yourself and your daughter.
Take the ring to a pawn shop, and buy something nice for you and your daughter. Screw him!

I think it depends on who calls off the engagement but if it were me, I would probably give it back.

I agree. Get yourself to a certified diamond dealer (if you need the name of a reputable one, post here you'll have 100 answers) and get the money for that ring. Screw him, the ring is probably worth more than what he owes you.
And, he GAVE you that ring, no backsies. Period!!

I wouldn't give it back. He should atleast pay you what he owes you first.
