Need another opinion

Need another opinion

Ok, so we're have our engagement party in August at Villa Russo (the restaurant part). Originally, we weren't planning on having a DJ (we have the option if we want, they'll open the second room up for us) and we were fine with that. We can make a playlist on an ipod and play that all night. So I was telling me my bff's mother about it and she asked if we were having a DJ and I told her no so she said 'Oh, you have to have a DJ! My other daughter went to an engagement party at a restaurant without a DJ and said it was painfully boring and she hated being there.' So now I'm worried. To me, it's only boring if the company is boring but do you think people would rather have a DJ? It's only going to be about 65 people. Ugh I don't know!!

i dont think you have to have a DJ at all! i had an engagement party, and my big thing was i didnt want to make it like a second wedding..i had 65 people there and we had a GREAT time--we just used the ipod to play music...it all depends on who your company is!!

That's how we felt. We had the option of having a big party but we're the same way - we didn't want to make it a mini wedding. I never had a second thought until bff's mom made that comment. I have no doubt that our friends will be able to make their own good time but she had me second guessing myself.

I think it's totally up to you. It really depends on if you want it to be a 'dinner' or a 'party'. My e-party was a Sunday brunch, so we just made a few cd's with soft background music. Everyone still had a great time anyway.

I think you will be fine without a dj. Everyone has their own opinions about things and you don't really know how that person's e-party was.

that is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard! being bored just b/c there is no DJ! what???
I think an I-Pod mix is a great idea. I completely agree - the company makes the party, not the DJ or anything else for that matter.
I am sure ur party gonna be great music or no music, b/c its a celebration of u and ur FH starting this journey together. as long as there is family, friends and close ones its gonna be a great party

My FI and I didn't have one at our party. We had 100 guests and did a cocktail party it was great everyone mixed and mingled some of the kids danced to the ipod mix we made and it was fine! We too did not want a 'mini' wedding. It was a huge success and we had a great time.

It is a personal choice but I do not think it is necessary.

we had a dj, but ours was at a hall.. not a restaurant. our DJ was amazing! we didn't want an emcee. he just played background music and announced when dinner was being served and when to take pictures (with the cake). and he made cute remarks here and there... it was perfect.

but because you're not going to have people up DANCING you don't need it... ipod is fine!

I think you will be FINE without a DJ! We were going to have one for our e-party this weekend but seeing as how it is outdoors I thought it was too obnoxious so we are basically doing the same thing but using a mac and DJ equipment instead of an ipod.

Don't sweat it! As long as your iPod plays good music you should be fine. Your bridal shower isn't suppose to be like your wedding, its suppose to be nice and fun and everyone just enjoying themselves!

You don't need a DJ!! My eparty is a BBQ eparty, so we're just making a song list on an ipod. People will have fun without a DJ. Music is music whether a DJ plays it or your IPOD plays it!

OMG! That was so rude of her to say. You definitely don't need a DJ. Especially for a small restaurant, it will totally kill the intimate atmosphere of your e-party. Why hire a DJ when you can make a playlist on your iPod and play that?

We are having a sunday brunch and are definately not having a DJ. We are playing fancy outdoor games like bacci ball and horseshoes instead. LOL.

Do not let people's ignorant comments make you change your mind on what you want!!!! You do not need a DJ!!!

I don't think a DJ is necessary. We are having it a VFWish place, and there is space for a DJ, but we aren't having one. I want more of like a beer pong, outsidey lets do shots type of thing. Plus, even if it wasn't like that, I don't think the DJ necessarily matters. A party is what people make it to be. A boring group of people will be boring whether there is a DJ or not, and a fun group of people will be fun whether there is a DJ or not.

u dont HAVE to have a dj.. just like u dont HAVE to have an eparty. if u can stream music thru your ipod, thats fine. Me, personally, if i was having an eparty at a hall or a place with a dancefloor, then yea it would be awkward not ot have a dj. maybe u can find 1 for a few hundred $.. its much easier to dj a party than a wedding therefore they shouldnt charge nearly as much.

I definitely don't think it is a necessity at all for an e-party. Don't get me wrong, I had one, but no one would have missed it or been pizzed if I just played an iPod. We got a good deal so we said F it. But its really not mandatory!
